Is So. Cal safe?

I have a business conference to go to in San Deigo May 10th and I wanted to make sure I'm not gonna die when I go down there.

So, Will Swin Flu be a large problem, and;
what do we know about the ganglyness of the town?

edit: changed month, im an idiot

No, you'll die. In fact, we here in California are already dead; but those of us who took Tamaflu are no brain eating zombies - and are waiting for you to arrive so that we can feast on your BRAinnnnsss..... ;)

Yes.

You can die in the plane crash, die in a car crash, can have a heart attack by then. You will die, freaking out over a stupid overblown new week is just stupid.

Not sure what you're getting at, Minneapolis is miles from Texas same as San Diego. San Diego is on the Mexican border area but the cases in Texas leads me to believe that the Swine Flu is in the east of Mexico near to the Texas border and not near California.

What I'm getting at is that Ft Lauderdale has alligators, that's what. It has as much to do with the OP's question as your statement about his not going to Texas.

He wanted to know if swine flu down in San Diego would be a problem and based on the current outbreaks mostly taking place in Texas and that area of the Mexican border I said he'd probably be safe.

Wrong. The vast majority of US cases of swine flu seem to be taking place in New York. There are 51 cases in NY, 16 in TX. There are 3 cases in San Diego County, not San Diego itself. Your advice is useless and wrong.

Zombies have always seemed a bit too honest, imo.

why thank you..
since as a zombie ( i was born dead after all) ;)

anyway since cases seem to connected with people who have gotten back from mexico the stuff can be anywhere.
unless things have changed in the last 24 the largest concentration of cases in the us was in new york state.

it spread like crazy through schools.. possibly because during the day one desk is used by several different kids. things like that.

It's a serious problem -- and the most serious part of it is probably how quickly it's spread across the planet -- but it's not like EVERYBODY has it in the areas it's appeared. Bear in mind that it's suspected to have infected around 3,959 people and to have killed 153. While it's troubling how swiftly the flu has moved, it's not exactly like every other person is turning up sick -- and the death rate is only 3.8%.

Based on that, Newark, DE is more dangerous than San Diego as far as swine flu goes.

Oooh, it's killed 0.000000255% of the world's population... sounds dangerous. Maybe I should hide underneath my bed.

Actually almost 4% is a very high number for a disease.

However we don't know how quickly it's moving. It showed up weeks ago in a 5 year old and he's doing fine. All of it is coming from Mexico and no one has died that hasn't been Mexican. That's the billion dollar question, why is it only killing the Mexicans so far.

New York isn't bordering Mexico.

 You just don't get it, do you. Why not play it safe and just concentrate on your corner of the world, Mmmmmmmmm-Kay?

Why are you getting so aggressive. I only told him he'd probably be OK, I have every right to give my answer as everyone else. Mmmmmmmmm-Kay?

Check it out:
Scientists see this flu strain as relatively mild
Genetic data indicate this outbreak won't be as deadly as that of 1918, or even the average winter.

By Karen Kaplan and Alan Zarembo
April 30, 2009

As the World Health Organization raised its infectious disease alert level Wednesday and health officials confirmed the first death linked to swine flu inside U.S. borders, scientists studying the virus are coming to the consensus that this hybrid strain of influenza -- at least in its current form -- isn't shaping up to be as fatal as the strains that caused some previous pandemics.

In fact, the current outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which emerged in San Diego and southern Mexico late last month, may not even do as much damage as the run-of-the-mill flu outbreaks that occur each winter without much fanfare.

"Let's not lose track of the fact that the normal seasonal influenza is a huge public health problem that kills tens of thousands of people in the U.S. alone and hundreds of thousands around the world," said Dr. Christopher Olsen, a molecular virologist who studies swine flu at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in Madison.

Fair enough. But either way, it's not appropriate to panic over the swine flu.

No, Southern California has some of the finest medical personnel in all the world. You have nothing to fear from the Swine Flu, nothing at all. Just relax and accept your medication.

what do we know about the ganglyness of the town?

Well, the chief gangs in the region are the Jets, Sharks, and the Warriors. You can blend in with the Jets and Sharks if you can manage spontaneous choreographed dancing and singing numbers, and the Warriors just want to be invited to come out and play.

Once you've infiltrated a gang, though, you have to understand their rituals. Ok, so dig this. You're on the street, and one of your gang disses you. How would you handle that? See, in a gang world, we use something called fluffy fingers. That's when someone really gets in your face, you know, you just start ticklin' 'em. And he starts ticklin' you. And pretty soon you laughin' and huggin'. Before you know it, you've forgotten the whole thing. Y'all just go to church together, and get an ice cream cone.

Keep all that in mind, and I think you should survive the horrors that await you in San Diego.
