The important thing for me, is how it does stay true to where the character was just before The Menagerie. Pulling every last cadet out of a radiation damaged ship. Nice to see a reflection of where Kirk and Spock later went years after 5 year missions too, training and mentoring promising cadets.

Always thought the the academy had an commandant.
