Is Paramount quietly killing GI Joe?

Thespeckledkiwi

Vice Admiral
Earlier this year there was supposed to be a teaser trailer attached to the Super Bowl. It didn't appear. Now Transformers' sequel is getting more news and press then GI Joe and it'll be released around the same time. In fact, I heard a Transformers' trailer should be coming out soon, a very rough teaser trailer.

And I got to wonder why there is very little publicity on such a flagship product. I know GI Joe is not as popular as Transformers but it has a big following and a distinct following as well.

So is Paramount trying to keep the movie low-key?

I thought there was suppose be a GI Joes trailer by now and Transformers 2, also a Terminator Salvation Trailer from warner brothers

Have no idea why gi joe trailer has not shown up

maybe they're trying to finish the FX work. i expect there to be a trailer by new year's.

the TF2 trailer's supposed to be on TDTESS remake IIRC.

they were hyping it at Comic Con, cuz i read articles about it on CBR

Can I go slightly off topic and ask a general GI Joe question?

I've never watched the cartoon, read the comics or played with the toys so forgive my ignorance but is GI Joe an actual character or just the collective name for the 'good guys'? In the photos I've seen of the movie I haven't seen a character called 'Joe'!

The original was indeed called GI Joe and then this became a name for the team - the original "Joe" shows up from time to time in the comics and is a general.

There is a Terminator Salvation trailer. It was attached to some movie this summer I saw which I can't remember for the life of me right now.

This is probably it...I forget.

Really, I'd expect Paramount to attach a prelim trailer for GI Joe and/or Transformers to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in December.

Paramounts revision of G.I. Joe is RAPING MY CHILDHOOD! I WILL NEVER SEE THIS MOVIE! NOT EVEN ON DVD.

Sincerely,

Idiot.

It was with The Dark Knight, but there was suppose to be a new trailer about now

It's entirely possible the plan was scrapped when Harry Potter moved from November to May 2009. I'd imagine they wanted to attach it to a high profile picture. Benjamin Button, a Paramount/Warner production, still looks like the best bet...at least to me.

I think I read somewhere that the final trailer for Transformers would be in front of Star Trek. That'd be the start of a two month marketing blitz for the movie.

I can't for the life of me construct what TDTESS is. Help please?

^^^
thanks
I stepped back in the room near the tail end of the trailer on tv and never have gone to look it up online. I should do that.
thanks again

I'll check this one out of curiosity, because I collected G.I. Joe figures back in grade school and was into the animated show and the comics.

The movie has a large cast and Darth Maul (Ray Park)is in it

Also I think the movie is now officially called 'G.I. Joe - Rise Of Cobra'

it is.

GI Joe is a series of toylines dating from the 1960s to today, which over the years went from a bunch of generic military figures at 12in tall to a series of 3 3/4in tall 'character' figures depicting a rapid-deployment counter-terrorist team dedicated to defending America from the forces of Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organisation bent of world domination which were sold under the 'A Real American Hero' branding. Subsequent to the cancellation of the ARAH line in the early 1990s, the figures were slightly enlarged and became about Sgt Savage and his Screaming Eagles, before reverting to the Joes VS Cobra 'plot' and the 3 3/4 in size in the late '90s in a series of lines subtitled 'Valor VS Venom' and 'Sigma 6' at various points.

in the ARAH continuity, G.I. Joe was founded initially in 1963 by JFK under the leadership of one Joseph Colton, a US Army green beret lieutenant, who later wound up as a general appearing in the battle with Cobra. Since Cobra didn't appear until the '80s, what Colton's unit was doing, I don't know. (i only know Colton and his story from #150 of the comic)

Well the weekend GI Joe premieres, it'll be featured prominently on TrekBBS TV & Media. Just saying... :)

it is.

Based on the 60's toys, battling Japanese and Germans who don't realize World War 2 is over.

Based on the 70's, battling dangerous wild animals and midget cavemen who like to hug people to death.
