Is Montgomery Scott the only high-ranking ToS officer in Starfleet during STD? (circa 2255)

RobertCardassian

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
So when Fuller was making the show he commented that the pilot takes place in 2255

The ToS pilot took place in 2265, a full 10 years that.

Montgomery Scott's canon birthday (2222) is between 5 and 20 years before that of Kirk (2233), Spock (2230), Bones (2227) Chekov (2245) and likely Uhura and Sulu (can't find a canon birthday for either).

This makes it plausible that the only higher ranking Starfleet officer the STD crew could possibly encounter is Scottie. Everyone else might be in the academy at best. I couldn't find dates of service so this could be wrong. What do you think?

Would you like to see him get recast as a younger lad?

I would not think we would see Scotty. He's at best an Lt. at this point if not a Lt. JG. stationed on some random ship in the fleet. He could be cameo material but so could technically Spock or Kirk who would presumably be Tilly's classmate and on the USS Republic at this point in time (presuming 2256). However we don't know the exact year episode 3 takes place in so it's very possible Kirk may already be on the Farragut, Scotty on an unknown ship, and Spock on the Enterprise.

Memory Alpha says Bones graduated from medical school in 2253 so he's a youngin too. (University of Mississippi before that for undergrad). I guess he never went to Stafleet

^Fandango, Kirk still has 2 years to finish his degree when the STD pilot happens so I don't think (?) he's on the Farragut. I think you have to graduate before becoming an Ensign, no?

Starfleet could do a simple program for those already trained in set feilds. They seem to do this is the Kelvin movies. There is also an option of doing that with a war on. Nations have done that in the past.

Yeah it's presumed or if you just pull from older novels that McCoy was just given a commission as a Doctor in Starfleet with of course some training. Kind of like how a Surgeon/M.D. can commission into the Army as a Major and just receive some overlay training from a BOLC. The expected is they'll be doing Doc stuff not running around the ship/field.

The show starts in 2256? He'd have a year at best Rob and on top of that Episode 3 is set sometime after the BofTBS so it could still be 2256 or a year or two later. So in 2256 Kirk would more than likely be on the Republic as I stated.

Scotty was a Lt. Commander when we first see him in 2265, and my impression is that he was a professional civilian starship engineer prior to entering Starfleet and he entered Starfleet at a later age than most.

So a ensign or maybe a lieutenant junior grade.

So in terms of Officers that in theory could make cameos in Discovery it's Scotty (unknown rank), Spock ( Lt?), Kirk (4th year cadet (2256)/ Ensign (2257).

To summarize:

? Kirk (either still in the academy OR in Starfleet on the Republic as an Ensign --- any experts please chime in)
Spock (in Starfleet and stationed on the Enterprise, likely a Lt)
Scotty (in Starfleet but unknown ship and unknown rank)
? Bones (graduated from medschool, but may be in the Stafleet equivalent of "Flight Surgeon" training)
x Uhura (still in academy at best, maybe high school)
x Chekov (still in academy at best, maybe high school)

I think I'd rather see a young Scottie than a young Spock (already kind of saw that in JJverse). It would be interesting to see what kind a young lad he was. We saw him as an old man in TNG and a 40 year old in TOS.

They could easily put any of the TOS crew on the USS Discovery if they wanted. They're not afraid to change anything they want to suit their stories.

And just because Kirk/Spock/McCoy/Scotty/Uhura/Sulu/Chekov/etc never mentioned it in TOS doesn't mean they didn't serve On the USS Discovery for awhile.

^ Well obviously they have little regard for canon if they made the Klingons in purple sparkly guys :barf: It's one thing to add ridges on their foreheads to make them more alien looking after the low-budget show ended and they got big budget studio $$$, but it's another thing to make them PURPLE :klingon::klingon::klingon:

I'm just saying if they were to do it the RIGHT way this is how they should.
