Is Kirk even in Starfleet? (Slight Spoilers, Maybe)

Watching the STXI trailers, I've gotten a distinct feeling that Kirk is not in Starfleet during the bulk of this movie. Kinda makes him assuming command of the most advanced vessel of the time a little silly doesn't it?

It looks like, during the clip with Spock on the bridge, that he still has the bruises & old cuts from the bar fight where he's urged to join Starfleet. That wouldn't be enough time to graduate I don't think.

Anyone else notice this or maybe the facial damage is from a fight after graduation (the bar scene being a flashback?).

Kirk attends the Academy just fine. Complete with Kobayashi Maru and all...

No. The trailers all show Kirk with, what appears to be the cuts and bruises he got from the bar fight, when he arrives on the Enterprise. The rest is just logical deduction. No spoiler warning needed....most of us have already seen this stuff.

Kirk has several fights between the time he first arrives on the Enterprise and the end of the movie. The injuries are different than the ones he got in the barfight.

We also see him at the Acadamy without any injuries

i will ask a mod but they may consider this to be like the trailers ect..
because they all are more spoilerly then this.

you dont really get any specific plot stuff.

but it could go into spoiler territory real easy.

any way this just seems to say yeah he is now an instructor or at least
asst instructor and not just a student.

It's even worse. Kirk and McCoy were put on Double Secret Probation by Dean Wurmer for staying intoxicated all through their stay at the Academy. The Delta House lost its charter and Bluto started a food fight.

From what I've seen, Kirk gets injured in the bar fight. Fast forward to the icy planet with the monster and he could have easily gotten bruised there. He meets Scotty and they end up on the Enterprise. But really, being from bar to alien world to starship would indicate quite a bit of time passing, hence new injuries.

But then we wouldn't know for sure until we watch the film.

The Enterprise is attacked at the beginning of some of these trailers. I want to ask why, at the end of the trailers, the Enterprise looks so clean. Logical deduction with huge but slightly educated guesses would tell me that the Enterprise gets destroyed and rebuilt in one movie, because that's sequence the trailers showed us.

Not really any spoilers in here, just stuff that can be found around the net from official releases. The trailers, movie site, etc.

It is also possible that the Startrekmovie.com dossier stops it before he graduates, (which would be before he goes on the Enterprise) to not give away much of the film.
Hence why the images in the dossier are from the Kobayashi Maru sim instead of a shot we haven't seen before from the Ent's bridge.

I've heard that Kirk's not in Starfleet but a separate service branch all together. He's a Dharma Initiative Colonial Jedi, whatever that means.
