Is Katie Lucas the Heir To The Star Wars Empire?

Whofan

Fleet Captain
She's written a few episodes of "Clone Wars", but they've been well-received, certainly more than the prequels were. Given that she's Lucas's daughter, should any future Star Wars projects-or even the future of the franchise once George passes-be intrusted to her? Although she hasn't any producer or directing credits (yet), perhaps a writer on the TV series?

I think this is a little premature to talk about right now...if anyone is heir it should be Dave Filoni. Just because she's written a couple episodes doesn't mean she should be given the keys to the car...just yet.

I think the more pertinent question would be does Katie Lucas want to be the be all end all of Star Wars like her father? The only way one can answer that is if you ask Katie Lucas herself, not a bunch of fan boys on a message board.

Although I do think rephrasing it would help. Being all like "When your dad dies, do you want his job?" is a bit of a harsh way of putting it. :p

Dave Filoni? The heir to the whole Empire? He's just the Clone Wars show-runner, and you'd give him the whole Skywalker Ranch?

That would be like making Brannon Braga in charge of Star Trek... :vulcan:

Oh, wait...

Without it they(Katie, Jett) would never get a chance, but nepotism gave her the opportunity to write episodes, nepotism will make her (her brother Jett) the heir to the SWE.:vulcan:

Filoni has done some great things with "Clone Wars" and consults with George on a regular basis. Lucas must like and more importantly trust what Dave has been doing over the past three years enough to let the show continue. The majority of Star Wars fans (at least the ones on this board and others I've talked to) seem to really enjoy the show and the things he's done with it. He's obviously a fan. As someone above me said if Katie continues to show creative interest in the franchise and has a few more episodes under her belt and decides she is interested in the finical aspects of what running the Lucas empire would be then fine. This would probably be a more interesting discussion to have in five or ten more years.

Did those kids hit the adoption jackpot or what? Well, Katie's competition is her sister who fights MMA and the brother who named Jar Jar Binks so she just might end up in the driver's seat. :)

Didn't Katie Lucas write the two parter was a direct "borrowing" of His Dark Materials' third book?

Except Filoni is good, by all appearances. :p

What episodes did Katie Lucas write? The last two show good imagination.

Are the Lucas kids adopted? Didn't know that.

While I have no specific reason to distrust Katie Lucas, isn't a "writing credit" sort of a grey area for some celebrities? Some famous people that write their memoirs, don't they just sort of meet with a writer and spill their guts and that somehow makes them an author?

She may have come up with some of the key points of the plots and another writer filled in the blanks. *Shrug.* Who knows? Maybe she did write it, line by line.

Better Braga than Ron Moore......

But, if we're picking writers we respect, how about Ira Steven Behr?

Your joke seems to be implying that Braga was in charge of Star Trek at some point, which is not true. He was showrunner on two seasons of Voyager and three seasons of Enterprise, but he worked for Rick Berman, the Paramount executive who actually was in overall charge of the franchise at the time. Braga was never given any kind of blanket power over Star Trek as a whole, let alone over Paramount (which would be the closest analogy to the Skywalker Ranch here). His involvement with ST ended as soon as ENT was cancelled. Berman stayed on for another year or two and worked on developing a new film project which fell through, and then he moved on, after which J. J. Abrams was pegged as the new "heir to the empire" (or Federation, I guess).

According to her IMDB profile, she has a "writer" credit on "Jedi Crash" and "Nightsisters," and a "written by" credit on "Sphere of Influence" and "The Academy." If there's a distinction between the two phrases, I don't know the details.

My guess is the "writer" basically means she tossed around some ideas and somebody else wrote about them.

"Written By" implies she actually sat down at her computer, opened Final Draft, and started plugging away.

That's what I'm assuming now as well. Perhaps the "writer" credit means she's a staff writer?

She was termed a "Guest Writer" she's not on the writing staff. Why would there be any need to even suggest that she didn't write the episodes she has claimed she has? Why would the other writers not take credit for it if they "Ghost wrote" them? I don't think there is any need to second-guess that Katie didn't write these episodes. Shows have guest director's and guest writers all the time. Joss Whedon guest directed an episode of "The Office" and appeared in "Veronica Mars" because he was a fan of those episodes. Kevin Smith guest directed the pilot of "Reaper". There was a thing last year or the year before where writers from different shows switched shows and guest wrote. I think it was for CSI and something else. Another example would be Geoff Johns guest writing for "Smallville" on both "Legion" two years ago and now the upcoming "Booster". He's not involved on the show though otherwise.
