Is Joe Menosky still working on Discovery?

In Thy Image

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
It was originally reported that Trek veteran Joe Menosky joined Discovery writing staff, but I don't remember hearing anything about him lately. He wasn't interviewed or present on any of the panels. Is he still working on DSC, or was he quietly fired (or left) when Fuller was dismissed as a showrunner? He wrote some great Star Trek episodes and I would be disappointed if he left the show.

Not heard anything since the initial announcement, and he's still listed on Memory Alpha and IMDB. Not that that proves anything, but it suggests there has been no release contradicting it.

Menosky's history on Trek is a rollercoaster. Darmok, Distant Origin and Scorpion, but also Interface, Masks and Times Orphan.

^ Now that I think of it, that Klingon sarcophagus ship does remind me of "Masks" a bit. Menosky also co-wrote "Year of hell" which was great. We shall see...

I know there is a lot of hate about "Masks", but I enjoyed that episode a great deal. It's basically mythology come to life, and Menosky's writing tends to lean toward the mythological side. It's one of the reasons why I love his writing so much. "Darmok", "DRAMATIS PERSONAE", "BLINK OF AN EYE", "MUSE"... they all have elements of mythology within them.

I was thrilled when I heard he was part of the writing staff.

Considering how many episodes he worked on that's unsurprising. It's no different from how Moore and Braga go straight from writing the worst TNG movie to writing the best.

Menosky has hardly done any interviews and has stayed out of the limelight so to speak since he started on TNG, so it's possible he's still on DSC. Has he ever attended a convention?

I'd be very happy if he was still on the team.

As a distinct detractor of the show, looking back at his VOY input, many of his episodes would land on the "would re-watch" list and some of them are straight up great. Similarly, on his TNG days barring Legacy, Interface and Emergence, most of them are top draw and/or creatively adept.

Along with Braga in his early years, Menosky always appeared to offer up a few of the more wierd and interesting ideas - Masks (which is so insane I love it), The Thaw (another love/loathe episode that I adore), Darmok (Top end TV), Dramatis Personae, Distant Voices, In Theory, The Nth Degree, Distant Origin

On top of that he significant hands in many of the "big" episodes, be them adventure or thoughtful kind:

I, Borg, The Chase, The Killing Game, Year of Hell, Future's End, Blink of an Eye, Living Witness

I'd actually say he was one of the saving graces of VOY

In fact the more I look at his resume the more I wonder how he's not moved up to Showrunner or similar. He has a strong writing voice, seems apt at experimenting with episode structures/ideas and can flit between the grand and the personal.

If he's on the team he's the most exciting part of the production.

If not, I hope he lands somewhere soon. In fact, Braga's show Salem, just hit Netflix and Menosky was a writer there. Might check out his stuff.

Hugo - yet another show to put in the queue
