It really depends on the film. We're talking Dr. No or Casino Royale vs. Moonraker or Die Another Day here.

The other three movies make no bones on which side of the thriller/sci-fi divide they're on, but Dr. No still featured a technological island fortress from which an angry scientist toppled space rockets to raise tensions amongst the Superpowers (Blofeld's Bird 1 scheme had the same goal in YOLT, only on more sci-fi steroids).

It's odd that people cite Dr. No as one of the more realistic movies now...it was the most "sci fi" of Fleming's books.

However, I think that arguably Bond belongs in the Sci-fi & Fantasy forum just as much as any discussion of the Batman movies. As I say, the Craig movies don't belong there, but arguably neither do the Nolan/ Bale Batmovies. Taken as a whole, the two collections of movies definitely have at least one foot each in the skiffy camp, though.

Agreed. Not all James Bond is sci-fi but I think that there's enough that is to qualify it for the SF/F forum. Not to mention some of the comparable spy stuff that does get let into that forum like Alias & The Prisoner. Also, there are stories classified in SF/F even though they are not science fiction but speculative fiction like V for Vendetta (and to a lesser extent, Children of Men).

I can say the spy comedy, Spies Like Us, and teen adventure movie, Wargames, from the early to mid 80s could both be seen as science fiction (with a orbital defence network far in advance of the so-called Missile Shield and a fully fledged AI), while The Goonies is fantasy like Raiders of the Lost Ark or the PotC movies.
