The point is not moot. You are correct - They aren't "beholden". However, respectful offspring, adult or not, of good parents, will at least take their parents' opinions under advisement.

If your parent is telling you you'll go to Hell or otherwise condemning you for loving someone of the same sex, that's not being a good parent. But if they're concerned and telling you that there are serious health risks, danger of being taken advantage of, and problems with how you may be perceived in a professional work environment after doing porn, then that's just good advice, regardless of who it is from, but knowing it is from someone who loves you and that you respect might add a bit of weight to it.
