Is it possable to have a reading addiction?

Seriously. I have just over 250 Star Trek novels and I have read them all. A few of them I have read more than once. And, every month, I get whatever new books come out.

Yes, now that I think about it, it is probably possable to be addicted. But, in reality, there are probably worse things to be addicted to.

Anyone else have this type of addiction/collection?

Re: Is it possible to have a reading addiction?

I must have somewhere around a thousand Star Trek books by now. And several thousand books that aren't Star Trek books. I haven't read them all yet, though.

When I was 11 or so, I got my first pair of glasses. Cut back on the reading a little, I was told, and I'd probably be back to not needing glasses in a year or two. You can probably guess how that turned out.

Re: Is it possible to have a reading addiction?

Yes and everyone in this forum has it. :p

Seriously, books have caused much sleep deprivation for me, most recently the last two nights when I finished Dawn of the Eagles and started Fearful Symmetry.

Re: Is it possible to have a reading addiction?

I've read probably 98% of all Trek books published. About 12 years ago I discovered the Used Book Store, and it was all downhill from there.

Re: Is it possible to have a reading addiction?

Hello, my name is JAG and I am a readaholic.

Yes it is possible, and I am one.

I have over a hundred ST books, and probably 500 others, with more coming in almost weekly. Plus magazine subscriptions means that I spend a good portion of my spare time reading, and what I have left I spend writing and on these boards.

My fiance used to think so. Then I got back into World of Warcraft. She starting thinking about the good old days when I read all the time. Now that I'm bored of WoW and am blasting through a lot of books I think she's happier again. Well, until the expansion comes out.

I used to spend my time on such things, but now my wife comes first. But after my wife, and maybe my career, comes Star Trek Novels and Magazines.

I guess I'm the lucky one who has a wife who enjoys WoW and reading as much if not more than I do!

I went through a readaholic phase a few years ago. Right now I'm in a sleepaholic phase though. Stupid school.

I'm school right now, so I really don't have time to be a readaholic. But I am a tv-addict, so I apend most of my free time watching TV and reading (I read during commercial breaks) and at school. I'm also hoping to get a job, so that's gonna knock down my tv/reading time even more.

If you get a TIVO that would knock your reading time down even more...

Yeah, probalby. But then again, I would have more free non-tv time that I could use for reading.

Same here.

I am SERIOUSLY addicted to reading.

Wait, that's not a bad thing is it?

So long as it doesn't get in the way of the rest of your life.

Oh..and don't be one of those people that walks and reads. That's just silly.

But this is how I get most of my reading done! Well... maybe not most... but being able to walk and read at the same time has definitely increased my reading capacity to a huge degree. I've been doing it since I could walk and read separately, and in the 20+ years I've been doing it, I've only walked into something once, and it was a very tilted sign pole.

Re: Is it possible to have a reading addiction?

I can't do that myself. The way that the ground and stuff around me moves, but not the book really screws with my head.

Re: Is it possible to have a reading addiction?

I am also a reader/walker. Can only do it with MMPB or similar-sized books, but I'm a nervous, twitchy kind of guy, and walking while reading satisfies the impulse to move. (Also, it turns a nominally sedentary activity into a [relatively] active one.)

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
