Is it just me or.. (universe Gate)

It would also make sense because nine chevrons have to be dialed in order to reach Destiny; and knowing this, the later stargate designs (Milky Way, Pegasus) had nine chevrons.

This is the clincher argument for me, otherwise its remarkably... convenient that they put an extra chevron onto the Milky Way gates.

It makes sense to me, the Destiny gates were the template for the other models to come, it needed 9 chevrons to work spatially, and thus they made all the Stargates after it with 9 chevrons too.

The pics ive seen of the new gate make it look like the chevrons spin around the gate, not the symbols. Anyone else get that impression?

This gives a good rundown on how the gate operates:

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2009/07/heres-how-the-destiny-stargate-dials/

It states:

As shown in the recent SGU teaser trailer “Survive,” the entire gate spins while dialing (not just an inner track).

In this link you can see the gate spinning fully:

I quite like the design of the new (old) gate.
I actually see the inner bit standing still and the chevrons moving in the second trailer. Not the whole gate moving...Certainly the entire ring that the chevrons are ON is moving, but the inner symbols are standing still, at least it looks like to me...

[edit] Oh. then I watch the rest of the trailer and it shows it up close... Oh KAY... xD

Hrm, interesting

I had another thought, which I guess will be explained in the pilot I hope, how are they able to gate to the ship in the first place, and why can't they gate back, i.e. in terms of power source. Surely the Ancients would have thought of a way to send themselves back to the MW galaxy from the Destiny and left a few power cells there, heh.

Also, considering the Destiny has been planting Stargates in who knows how many galaxies, how far in terms of distance will they be able to travel with whatever power source is on board the Destiny? Can they only travel within a gate network of the galaxy they are in, or does it allow them to gate to other galaxies the Destiny has dropped off gates at, and if so what is the distance limitations? If they find enough power could they gate all the way back to the MW?

So many questions and the series hasn't even started yet :D

They mentioned that these older gates dont have the range the new ones do, and that when the destiny comes out of hyperdrive, they will have a limited range of planets to gate to, depending on where the ship stops.

I thought of that too, but this ship is most likely several million years old and the power cells are probably all long dead.
