Is it just me, or is Star Trek going the wrong way?

The nuclear war movie Threads is dystopian. Nothing in Trek is that dark and unremittingly negative so, no, the franchise isn't getting dystopian.
Honestly, even TV doesn't feel as dark as insisted. I feel about the same about current entertainment as the past. Some is good, most is uninteresting and few are actually bad, negative or depressing.

When you sat through the nuclear holocaust films of the Cold War '80s it's hard to take anyone calling Modern Trek "dystopian" seriously and in any way, shape or form. Trek even in its saddest moments offers hope and tells us that humanity/the Federation are going to survive and keep evolving into something better, or at worst fix their failings and try to rediscover what once made them so great and noble.

It's more somber than most Berman Trek outside of the DS9 Dominion War arc or the ENT Xindi arc but that doesn't make it dystopian. DS9 in-general was darker than TNG but that didn't make it a dystopian take on Roddenberry's universe.

I might be way off base, and correct me if I’m wrong, but maybe the Mirror Universe—stick with me; I know it’s crazy but I’m just spitballing here—maybe the Mirror Universe is a dystopian representation of the Federation.

Yeah, but that doesn't fit the narrative. :p
I'm giving a like because I like the sarcasm...

...but, in the name of discussion I'll add this. One of the biggest things I have taken away from various reactions to Star Trek is that I watch it for much different reasons than many others. It seems the idea of just enjoyment is not sufficient and that it must be uplifting, leaving feeling you super positive and happy.

I just want to like it. I don't NEED to feel happy. Generations is a film I love and with the exceptions of Data finding Spot and Picard his family photo album in the wreckage of the Enterprse-D saucer section there's not much good news at the end of that movie. But I still walk away from it feeling entertained and edified because the story had a message.

Real Star Trek died with "The Cage(TOS)."
It died when the Talosians show up. ;)
In fact, Voyager was the last series which was Star Trek. Enterprise wasnt that dystopian but the whole series was a failure. A badly done retro series. The NuTrek movies were lousy, Discovery a downright disaster and Picard is just sad to watch. it's like if, let's say Beatles would make a come-back and selling out to the current trends by including rap and today's boring lightweight pop into their music.
None of those things make something "not real Star Trek".
The Beatles were constantly absorbing new things and putting them into their music. You can hear also sorts of influences in their music. Not just Georges's Indian stuff but West Indian music, American country & Western, Music Hall, the Blues, Hard Rock, Avant Garde ...well the list goes on. And let's face it. McCartney is the king of lightweight pop. The Beatles rarely stood still and were always moving forward. So yeah, I can see the Beatles using Rap in their music.
