And for the record, I thought the books' lengths were fine (and seven's was perfect).

I like 300 pages or the length of Q & A. It seems that represents a good 2 hour episode or movie in my head.

Too much longer than that and it seems that writers get long winded...

I agree. I have no problem with the length of the HP books either.

In general, I don`t mind fillers if they are good fillers. Some fillers are even very interesting when they provide some additional background of the characters.

Harry Potter Books Four through Six (still reading Seven) were just fine.

Harry Potter Books One through Three each could have used significant trimming.

One of the things I really like about the ST fic of the last five years is the length and the depth of the the newer style books (Titan, Vanguard, Mission Gamma). At least for me, the longer, the more involved I get in a book.
