Is Insurrection to blame for the end of DS9?

Quark was in a deleted scene from the end of Insurrection. He arrives on the starship Ticonderoga and plans to build a spa or something there. Picard says no and has Worf take him back to the Enterprise, which is heading for DS9.

Does anyone know why it wasn't on the DVD? (except for a photo still) Shimerman should have credited just as Grodenchik and the young Ruafo were. Plus it couldn't have been any worse than the sickly sweet ending.

You can read the script here:

They could have saved the destruction of the original Defiant for a TNG Dominion War battle, and then the story would have continued on DS9. That actually would have made more sense. I think the problem was that they were so intent on doing a Star Trek IV-type of film with TNG. They certainly missed the opportunity to give DS9 a boost instead of treating it like the black sheep of the franchise.

Wasn't it because the DS9 staff would've complained over their chars and story being used for TNG? I remember Behr being PO'ed that the Defiant was used in First Contact at all.

^true, but that's because Behr didn't know about it until the movie came out. If they decided to do a Dominion War Battle movie with TNG, they could have asked for some input from Behr and the DS9 staff and included some characters. It's a moot point now, but it would have been an interesting thing to do

Well, Michael Piller wrote INS (though he was restricted by Paramount a lot), and since he was the one who co-created DS9 and was the actual creator of the Dominion (he was in charge when they were made) I think Behr might've been more willing to talk with him than Berman.

I believe the story is that the script for First Contact featured the destruction of the Defiant. Behr objected, and refused to acknowledge the loss of the Defiant on DS9 if it occured. Berman agreed, and the scene was rewritten so that the Defiant survived.

I dunno, INS at least had some deeper questions (if you think about it): Are Picard and co rebelling and helping the Baku purely for their ideals, or is it partially because they were experiencing youthfulness and that was messing with their judgment?
