Is "How I Met Your Mother" the best show ever?

It's not the best ever but it's certainly one of my all time favorite sit-coms. I'd rank Arrested Development over it... possibly 30 Rock and Office. Seinfeld is my all time favorite but I'll admit that it wins in nostalgia more than quality. NOTE: I've been catching it on DVD so I haven't seen Season Four yet, but hopefully I can watch the new season live for the first ever!

Right after season 3, I would probably have agreed. But, Season 4 by and large was not good. They had some very weak, sitcom-y scripts like Barney's fake family. Sarah Chalke (who I'll admit, I harbor a really unhealthy crush on from Scrubs) did not mesh well with Josh Radnor in specific, or the whole cast in general. The loss of Lily for half the season (Allyson's maternity leave), and Cobie's very, very obvious pregnancy hurt the flow and chemistry of the cast. Segel and NPH did keep the show watchable, but that's about all I can say.

I love this show. Even though it did have some pretty horrible episodes in season four, there were a lot of really good episodes and I thought the quality outshone The Office's fifth season by quite a wide margin. The Office was my favorite sitcom for quite awhile. 30 Rock is also a lot of fun. Is HIMYM the BEST show ever. Hell no. But in the same breath, its a lot of fun.

Yes. Well not best but up there. I love how they deal with the age bracket of 25 - 35. The whole WTF do I do with my life now I have a undergrad degree.

It's far from being the best show ever, but it's definitely very very entertaining. NPH totally kicks ass. ;)

I will agree that Ted has been kinda the weak link lately. He's had some great individual moments, but his character has been in a pretty shitty rut since the end of the Robin bit. Granted, that's kinda how real life works, and is part of the story, but he hasn't been as much fun to watch as Barney and the rest of the gang.

Then again, Naked Man!

Best I can say for the show is that it's fun to watch, occasionally hilarious, and has sweet moments as well. Continuity has been excellent (except for how Ted is supposed to turn into Bob Saget somehow  ), and above all, it didn't feel like a new show at the beginning; even the first few episodes, everything kinda felt comfortable and broken in already, with the cast and characters pretty good right out of the gate.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, as I haven't seen a whole terrible bunch of this show, but has it been determined with 100% certainty that the Bob Saget voice-narrator is definitely Future Ted?

What if he's Future Barney? Or does that make no sense at all?

No, because voice-over guy says, "Your Uncle Barney" and "Let me tell you what happened when I...." and then it shows present Ted doing that exact same thing.

While I greatly love the show it's my second favorite half hour comedy show behind The Big Bang Theory which I find absolutely hilarious. HIMYM is good, and I laugh a fair amount, but the episodes are more hit and miss as compared to TBBT as I laugh my ass of every episode of TBBT.

No, neither of those makes any sense imo. Future Ted clearly is "Ted" imo.

I don't know where tha "Bob Saget rumor" is coming from.

It's just a question of how Josh Radnor's voice as yound Ted could turn into Bo Saget's voice as old Ted narrating.

It's not an issue I've ever worried about, but I shouldn't be shocked that there area people who do care.

I will admit, I first tuned into this show because of Alyson Hannigan, She Who Can Do No Wrong. I enjoy the show because of all the characters, however.

My fave subplot at the moment is the ongoing "thing" between Barney and Robin, where they really do love each other but hate to admit because That's Not Who They Are!

Between this and Big Bang Theory, my Monday night is complete.

I had to turn the pilot episode of HIMYM off after ten minutes - it just wasn't funny at all.

Meh, Dexter is getting really repetitive. Have you seen the pre-air of season 4? It's season 1/2 all over again and Lost could start wrapping up their stories sometime soon also.
