To pump up the drama GoT style.. I imagine there will be a heaping spoonful of violence and dark broodingness, with a sprinkle of depressing trauma, and the occasional funny moment/character.

This is my fear. But, to be charitable, I'm trying to think of it as being like "Wrath of Khan" rather than GoT.
The less GoT influence, the better. To pump up the drama GoT style.. I imagine there will be a heaping spoonful of violence and dark broodingness, with a sprinkle of depressing trauma, and the occasional funny moment/character.
Probably than we would expect.Star Trek without the occasional humor mixed in will get old after a while no matter what they do in each episode. It's just something we expect. I'm pretty sure we'll get some of that.
I think DSC is just as capable of that, if not more so.Mad Men managed some wackadoo stuff even in its rather grounded, somewhat grim tone. But I will miss the straight-up light comedy eps, if they're not there.
That's been my impression as well, that while it will deal with a war, it'll focus on trying to find a way to bring about a peaceful end to the war, rather than just blowing up as many Klingons as possible.I think DSC is just as capable of that, if not more so.
Basically the new canon version of what was once dubbed as the "Four Years War" during the
If there is a major battle in this series that takes place at Axanar, people will have a fit.
My thinking is that the funny moments will come out of the ensemble they've put together as a cast. They seem to get along incredibly well, and that kind of chemistry generates humorous moments by just their acting or reacting to something.
Doug Jones said he would sometimes come off as Spock or Data, so some of those lines about not understanding something or saying something off will be funny.
Curiosity of mine is whether or not that specific type of storytelling would fit in a contemporary television series? "Shore Leave" is a lot of fun, and I thoroughly enjoy it, but it still carries many tropes of 60s scifi of the completely wacky world.I don't doubt we'll get some of this, but that's not the same as serving up something as fun and frothy as Shore Leave. I just hope they don't leave the option for that sort of storytelling off the table.
