Is Bones( the TV-series) Any Good? (plus about CSI)

I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons. I actually sought the opinion of folks here, who recommended the show. Later seasons have begun to grind for me and I no longer watch it. I have grown to really dislike Bones herself.

It's because they didn't have the courage to go down the implied autism/Asperger's route but ever so gradually turned her into a clown as time went by. This isn't unique by any measure, you understand. Very few shows make it past 3 or 4 seasons with their quality unimpaired.

Yeah, I think the writing of her character was exceedingly shoddy. They write Booth better. Maybe it's because it's easier for them (as in the writers) and us to understand people like him, but no so much someone like Brennan. I really wish they'd explored what you wrote. That would have been phenomenal.

One VERY good recent episode was the one where the vic reminded Brennan of herself, and she had a little emotional crisis about wasting her life. It was well-written, and very well acted by Emily, who acted more like a real human being than a cartoon scientist for once. Sadly it was only one episode.

I tried watching it but cop shows are just so similiar that if you've seen one you've seen them all. Unless a show offers something new I pretty much don't have the patience to sit through them. I'm sure most of them are decent but I hate figuring everything out so quickly--I need to be surprised and I need really engaging characters. Plus most of them always do the budding will they/won't they romance between the two leads and 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work.

If you enjoy CSI, I think you'll get some good mileage out of "Bones" for at least 2-3 seasons, not just the first. My view on the show may be a bit different as I only watched the show via Netflix in the past year, and those were marathon sessions often while doing chores or some other activity near the TV.

"Light" is a word that comes to mind. The subject matter can be very grim at times, but the show never becomes "uber dark and gritty", which is part of the reason I enjoy it so much.

I've only watched up to season 5, and I did notice a bit of a dip in quality that season, but I think by S5 of most shows I notice that. I've not heard kind things from friends about S6 but I have yet to watch it.
