Is anyone going to pickup Bonds?

I thought the Rays were going to pick him up at some point. He seems like he'd be good for a team in two aspects...he can put butts in the seats, and he will sell alot of Jerseys.

I know he is clubhouse poison, and but I think an owner would think he could generate some money that way. If no one else is going to pick him up, then you don't have to pay him alot of money, or make his contract laden with incentives....certain number of AB's, certain number of homers...

I am not a Bonds fan nor a Rays fan for that matter, but I thought he'd be on a team at some point....are they waiting for the litigation to finish on the perjury case? Is that it?

Also, I wish someone would pick up Piazza already. The rumor is the Reds, but nothing comfirmed yet. But he was my favorite Met, and I'd love to see him play some more...

Piazza's pretty much done. Everybody knows it. He'll want money and you can find better value at a lot less money for an old guy with bad knees.

Bonds - I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. He's worthless in the field now, so you limit yourself to AL teams. Bonds only wants to play for a contender, so that knocks out a bunch more. He isn't going to play for a bunch of teams that already have the DH slot filled, so you really end up with only one or two possibilities. With a young squad that's very talented and up-and-coming, why would you take a chance at poisoning your team that might finally be ready to break .500. It's not like Bonds is going to help out and be a team guy. That's not his style. For the little good he might add this year, he might set you back with his corruptive attitude. Not worth it.

Bonds isn't worth the paper his contract would be printed on. At this point, I'm not even sure he'd put butts in the seats with the negative press he generates.

And in additional to all of that, he's way overpriced. No one is going to touch him.

There were vague rumours that the Jays would pick him up, but we already have a good LF platoon in Matt Stairs and Shannon Stewart, and Frank Thomas is a solid DH. Plus, it would mean bringing in exactly the sort of player that the Jays have had problems with in the past (such as Ted Lilly and Shea Hillenbrand) so it really would have been a terrible move overall.

now that he broke the home run record and the curiousity factor of that is gone i dont think he would put people in the seats.
and he has surrounded himself with people tied in with the different investigations.
i dont think the teams want them in the clubhouse.

Sorry, he was released by the Jay's. Read online that he was carping about playing time. Most likely due to his option being based on plate appearances.

Yeah, I know, that's why I released him.

But at least now I know what you meant in your previous post. You made it sound like coaster and I were complaining, not Frank Thomas.

I hate when I do that.

Anyway, Bonds might have a shot in the late summer if a contending AL team has need due to injury or lack of production. It's a big might, though.

Ha! Yeah, famous last words, there. Was a good move, though... he was only batting .167, after all.

Still don't think we'll go after Bonds, though.
I only kept on my team because he walked more than anyone else on my team. But the lack of power (other than the occasional homer) and hits in general hurt a lot. So did the strikeouts.
