Is anyone a member of Starfleet?

I've been doing research on finding an "official Star Trek fan club" and I found this one called Starfleet. It's apparently been running since the 80's and they have a bi-monthly newsletter called the "Communique".

I'd like to know if this is something worth paying $15.99 a year for.

I belong, but I'm pretty new to it, so I can't yet tell you how good it is. But for $15, it's worth taking a chance. One thing I do know, the people involved seem to be friendly and welcoming.

Weird, I just started a thread on this awhile back. We just formed a chapter here in Escanaba MI, the USS Ludington. I merely wanted a group of like-minded people to get together and be Trek-ish every once in awhile. We opted to be a part of Starfleet International (sfi.org).

It is a very organized organization with 220 chapters broken down into regions, each with leaders, and the whole organization having national leaders. It is in the process of repairing a schism and folding back in a splinter group, too.

If you form a chapter, not every member of your local group need be an official dues paying member of sfi, but I think you need 8 sfi members in your club by a certain time after you begin, or maybe it's 10.

Our club so far is opting to do twice a month meetings. One with some business/housecleaning, then watch a movie or ep. The other mtg per month is fun and games solely. We literally played board games and Star Trek scene it. We had a discussion before that based on a thread here, and my son (science officer) gave a report on current science things.

Sorry for randomness of this post, but I'm in a rush. I'll be glad to answer more questions later, but I'm pretty happy with the experience so far.

Be well!

That sounds really interesting. I think I'm going to go ahead and become a member.

My dad and I joined the local chapter, the USS Continuum, a long time ago. We left a year or two later. We just lost interest, I guess (In the club, not Star Trek :p).

Our chapter (USS Ludington with website at http://ussludington.blogspot.com) is doing well for a city of 15,000 in Michigan's northern wilderness: 6-10 people attending first 3 mtgs.

We had an organizational mtg, a games night, a business mtg discussing all sorts of possibilities. We're going to help our violence shelter, as community service is part of the whole deal.

So - good sailing so far.

Greetings, I am the Commanding Officer of the N.C.C. - 74502 U.S.S. Iwo Jima.

We are a local meeting chapter of Starfleet, The international Star Trek Fan Association. Our geographical location is the Tri-State area of New York, Which includes the Five Boroughs, Northern New Jersey, lower Westchester, and Southern Rockland Counties.

We attend local area Sci-Fi Conventions. Such as: Comic Con NY, LunaCon, and Creations Entertainment. As well as, Starfleet organized events such as regional conferences with other chapters.

We are a meeting chapter, at lest once a month we all go out for dinner and other activities.

Just this past weekend a group of us saw the movie Battle:LA and then went out for dinner. This weekend we as a chapter will be attending the LunaCon convention that being held in Rye, NY. We will all be in our uniforms and looking forward to have fun.

I have been a member for over ten years and have made friends all over the world. Now many of us use Facebook to keep in touch.

Since joining I have role played as a Starfleet Marine and have held a number of posts with in the Organization. For my efforts I have risen through the ranks. Currently I hold the grade of Brigadier General.

Currently I am the chief of Staff for the 7th Brigade of the Starfleet Marines Corps. As of July it will the U.S.S. Iwo Jima's first anniversary as a chapter.

If you interested in joining I say go for it and just checking out the following web sites for more information www.sfi.org and www.sfi-sfmc.org.

Or contact me by email for more information

Starfleet is not officially sanctioned by Viacom but is an International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc.

I am First Officer of the USS Abraham Lincoln, a STARFLEET International chapter north of NYC. The main advantage I have found for being affiliated with SFI, is the opportunity to do things with other chapters in the region. It gives one a whole lot more activities both in quantity and variety to participate in. When there are conventions in the region, such as Shore Leave, then we all get to meet and hang out together.
