I knew very little of Iron Man (other than the song) before I saw the movie.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and consider it one of the very best films of 2008.

The reason for all the 'hype' is that so many comic-book movies are so terrible.

There was nothing amazing about Iron Man. I mean, yes, it was good. It was enjoyable. It was fun. I liked it.

But when you get right down to it, it was a fairly normal, average movie. But compared to a lot of other comic movies, it's a piece of gold.

So that's where the hype comes from. No big mystery there.

and RDjr is great, makes it a better film, but overall it was really just baisc, not amazing, not spectacular, not challenging. not bad, not great. and while I'm glad to see a traditional superhero movie that didn't have Tobey MacGuire, there was nothing in particular i really loved about Iron Man. It was just.... there

Part of what made it work is that it appealed to people that wouldn't go and see a 'comic book movie', they went because of RDJr, GOOP, and Jeff Bridges. Good actors in their own right. It was a movie that guys can like for the action, seeing GP in a short skirt and uber high heels and women can see if a badboy like RDJr and the 'good girl' GP.
