'Iron Man' armoured suit being developed by U.S.Army

It's common for people that work in manufacturing to wear steel toed boots to protect their feet/toes. Then again occasionally you hear of accidents of real heavy objects pressing down on their toes and flattening out the steel toes too....so I dunno.

I suppose the Iron Man suit has it's place...but for me I'd rather sacrifice armor for mobility.

Is it just me or does it seem like every time a movie or game comes out featuring robotic suits- the army leaps out of the wood work to announce that they're working on that very thing? They've been doing it for years, yet the media continues acting like this is cutting edge news.

Yep, I remember reading about the Army working on this stuff back cin the mid to late 90s. Im sure one of these days they will pull it off :D

That exact story was on the BBC a couple of weeks ago. I've got to be honest, the speculative armours that were shown near the end of that clip were more reminiscent of Storm Troopers than Iron Man.
By the way that scene with Iron Man and the tank is way cool. I like how he shoots the tank and turns and strides away, not bothering to even watch it blow up.

The Mobile Infantry from Starship Troopers (the book, not the horrible movie) are most often mentioned in this context.

Very unimpressive.. Pull the extension cord and tadaa you've got a very expensive non functional scrapheap. ;)

I'm more interested in body armour thats light enough to be at least somewhat comfortable and still bullet proof.

As for the rest, there's nothing wrong with late 15th century gothic Milanese armour.

I remember reading an short article by someone who worked for the military research in the UK. They said that they took ideas from everywhere they could, they even approached the makers of Aliens to see how the actors mounted the smart guns (some sort of camera mounting basically).

Those were dressed up SteadyCam arms (the same type of gear was used by Lucasfilm to shoot the speederbike chase in the redwoods).
