Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

I loved the first one. I thought this was good, but not quite as good as the first.

It could have done with more Iron Man though.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

Thought it was garbage. Last 15 minutes was good.

Nearly left half way through I was so bored.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

I wanted to go tonight here in Taipei, but it was sold out!

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

It kinda seemed like "a sequel just for the sake of making a sequel", rather than actually having some decent ideas and giving us something fresh and new

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

i loved it. i was slightly surprised by Whiplash's armour suit at the end since Fav was quoted saying you 'couldn't have just another Rock'em Sock'em Robots final fight.

laughed a fucking lot though.

loved how Happy was so please he beat that ONE guy and then sees Natasha's smacked down a dozen. loved WM and IM fighting the drones.

loved the fact Tony said to Rhodey about being a 'war machine' after he put the mkII suit on and how Hammer referred to the gunned-up suit as the 'Variable Threat Response battle-suit' - the original name for the WM armour.

and of course, the end scene was awesome.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

Argh, I've still got 5-6 days till I can see this.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

What is the point of staggered releases in the first place? Putting a film out there but limiting the areas which can go see it the legal way--particularly with blockbusters like this--seems like it would encourage piracy.

What do you mean encourage

Anyway the piracy isn't going to affect the US release since all foreign versions are dubbed and Americans hate reading subtitles .

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

since all foreign versions are dubbed and Americans hate reading subtitles .

No, not all of them are dubbed. Plus there's the UK & Australia where it's already out.
Anyway, as of yesterday there is one version out with Russian sound. I'm sure it won't take longer than a day or two for English sound copies.

Imo the best reason that IM2 won't be affected by piracy this early is that nobody wants to see such a movie (effects, battles and all that) in a crappy cam version, on a small screen. Maybe they would have a problem if a dvd/blu-ray quality copy was out there.
Plus the fact that it has become one of those must see, exciting, fun events.

Just to put an example, Iron Man 2 was released here both dubbed in spanish and in subtitled versions. I saw it subtitled, of course.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

^^ Even here in Taiwan it's in English with Mandarin subtitles.

Salvor Hardin: since this is a place with a lot of piracy, the fact that it was sold out last night shows that you're onto something with people wanting to see this in quality.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

So IM2 isn't out in the US yet?!?

Damn - it came out here last Thursday(29/5)and I know of some places that were showing it on Wednesday evening, 28/5!!!!

I remember back to the days when I had to wait almost SIX damned months to see ROTJ, so this is SWEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

The Concorde has been out of service for years.

Strange that this movie is released in Europe

And Australia

before in America, given that it's an American movie, featuring American actors and based on an American comic book chatacter.

Seriously, what kind of crap is that?

We've been putting up with it for years.

Your turn now.

Not all of them, you forget the UK ;) Besides, original versions are also available in certain cities, especially Brussels.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios opened Iron Man 2 internationally a week earlier to give it more time before the World Cup starts on June 11th. The highly-anticipated sequel earned an impressive $100.2 million its first five days from 6,764 theaters in 53 foreign markets for a strong average of $14,814 per site. IMAX Corporation reported that the film grossed $2.25 million at 48 IMAX theaters overseas - an average of $46,875. That's a new record for a 2D release, surpassing 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($2.1 million).

:)

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

What I want to know is what happened to the scene which features in the trailers where Tony and Pepper are chatting in the back of a cargo plane, Pepper kisses his Iron Man helmet, throws it out of the cargo plane forcing Tony to dive after it and put it on in flight. In the film thats changed to fade out from black with the pilots of the cargo plane talking to Iron Man over the radio and Tony (helmet in place) diving out of the plane. Fireworks are exploding all around and the impression is being given that Iron Man is entering a warzone, when in fact its the Stark Expo. WTF

But, see, you have to wait to see our movies. Do your movies get released here before there?

Trailers are often made before the final cut of the film, and by different people. The "practice" of deleted, removed, or altered scenes has been part of the movie/trailer relationship forever. This is nothing new.

Mr. Favreau, there was a snippet in the trailer where Pepper was in the plane with Tony. Was that meant to be a part of the Stark Expo scene where he's flying down from the plane?

Favreau: Yes. We had different versions of things that we tried. That was something that we tried, that was something that was a great image and a scene that's gonna be on the DVD. But we had two different versions of it, and because of the pacing and the way we reveal Tony Stark, it felt really good to flow into the drop down and reveal him for the first time on the stage. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, this doesn't make any sense. But oftentimes, in the editing room, we figure out what combinations of scenes ...

Downey: Gwyneth is just finding out that that scene was cut, Jon. You might be a little more sensitive.

Cheadle: You're in for a big surprise.

Paltrow: Nothing would surprise me.

Re: Iron Man 2 - Grading & Discussion Thread (spoilers guaranteed)

they also didn't include the scene from the trailer where Stark lets Natasha use the repulsor.
