Ireland Class Heavy Cruiser - USS McCashin - TOS era design.

It looks fantastic, Gouf. It feels like it leaps right out of the TOS era. To me, it bears a faint resemblance to the U.S.S. Yamato (BB) from Klingon Academy. I love the overall "feel" of the model, and would love to see it in a 3D rendering with a starscape behind it.

Great work!

It's been a while since a kitbash really had a TOS feel to it, but you've given it that feel.
Great job! :techman:

This has to be among the very best of fanon TOS-era designs. Nice work on the design, and astounding work on the model!

Thank you. I wasn't able to find any clear pics of the Yamato. But it sounds interesting.

Kagan: Thank you. I really tried hard to make it look like it could slide right into the original series.

Bernard Guignard: That would be nice. I tried to put one together for Legacy, but my 3D skills have wained. I haven't really used 3D software extensively since Imagine 3.0 in my Amiga days.

BolianAdmiral: Thank you very much. In the story concept I had, these ships were built 5 years before ST:TMP and represented the pinnacle of older TOS era technology. So I tried to stay as TOS cannon as possible while hinting at small design elements and the beginnings of the technology of the refit movie era designs.

From a model stand point, with the exception of the saucer and engines, everything else was build from scratch. The curved and slanted rear decks above the back of the saucer were the most difficult bit. But they and the shuttle bays are my favorite design elements on the ship.

I couldn't sleep last night, so I decided to photoshop one if the gallery shots into a shot of the ship in orbit over Risa.

It didn't turn out too bad. I haven't played in photoshop in a while.

Enjoy!

Let me know what you think.

Wow...just Wow. That is definitely a unique approach to the TOS era ships. I like it. You know it's a Starfleet vessel but a totally different approach.

While the pictures don't suggest it, I'd like to imagine that the saucer section is detachable, what do you think?

Great job! :techman:

Beautiful....any chance in getting that in a 1024x768 format? I blew it up but it's a little fuzzy on my desktop. :)

Ah, another one I don't mind seeing again. Can't get over how much I like this design. You're right, NiteTrek, a saucer sep would actually look good with this ship.

Nice photoshop job, btw Gouf. It's still obvious what it is but it still looks better than most CGI renderings.

This is without a doubt is one the best(if not THE best) TOS kitbashes I've ever seen. I can imagine it flying alongside the Enterprise in grainy 60's TV quality and it totally fits in my mind. Superb work.

Well Philo and NiteTrek, you are both correct. I designed the crescent moon shaped rear hull for the exact purpose of making the saucer still able to separate in an emergency. I have more details in the design notes here:

And thank you, I really do need to brush up on my photoshop.

Santaman, Chancellor Jake, deg3D, and Icy Penguigo thank you very much :) I am really pleased with it, but I think I'll have a hard time topping it design wise. Well maybe when I build the TMP Refit version.

~D.

^^ Maybe you could try and make a 24th version based on an Ambasador saucer section.. ;) that will keep you busy ;)

A refit version would of course be great as well :D :techman:
