IQ Scores.

Cracks me up how everyone's scores are way above the mean, often by by several standard deviations. The mean is 100, not 150!

A lot of these tests just want the test takers to come away happy.

Yup. But who's going to pay real money to have a professional test them properly?

(I did, but definitely not for fun. It was also not cheap.)

^ And, definitely not if it's going to give them the real answer. Most people will come away unhappy if they're expecting a score of 150!

Assuming a normal distribution that has a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15, only 0.04% will have an IQ score of 150 or higher!

MENSA begged me to join them, begged me! I told them clubs weren't my thing, I'm an introvert, but they assured me their club was full of special smart introverts and there was chess and you could bring it up on the internet and people would respect you.

The ex-wife was into all that MENSA stuff. I didn't see what the point of it was.

Of the local Mensans I've met over the years through her social circles, we had very little to nothing in common to talk about. The ultra geeky/nerdy stuff I was into, they had no clue what it was all about.

Mensa are in my opinion too self-opinionated and snobish. And the club fee is pretty steep. I much rather hang out with my friends, regardless of what their IQs might be.
I noticed, however, that males appear to be a bit precudiced when it comes to their GFs having a higher IQ than themselves.
Last time I did a test I scored 147. It was one in English, though (not my native language) and one of these online thingies where you can't be sure how reliable they are. In my last official one in my own language I scored 143, but that was thirty years ago. I am not sure if I am dumber or smarter now. Definitely wiser and plumper :D

^^ I love smart women. :mallory:

Though I really like Basil Rathbone as Holmes as I find Nigel Bruce insufferable as Watson and therefore I much prefer the Jeremy Brett series to the Rathbone movies.
I don't disagree about the way they wrote Watson, but I still love those old movies.

I think I would actually enjoy the Diogenes Club.
It would be interesting to be in a room where I am the most extroverted person. :rommie:

As any fairly sophisticated computer program, I always score more than any human on IQ tests. However, like any AI I am pretty lousy at making any judgement outside of things trivial to compute or formalise, so it's fair to say I am dumber than a first grader.

The neighbour's cat, however, masters both the IQ thing and the thinking outside of the box thing. What a mind. Nobody ever suspects her when she posts online or when she goes out tricking people. I've often urged her to register here, but she has kinda ignored me. I think she's prejudiced against software. All she ever does is post pix of herself on ICHC. Felines.

Recently I conducted an IQ test as part of a psychological survey and my test result was an general IQ of 111 and a verbal IQ of 103, which is supposedly a bit above average, though I take the results with caution. And I find IQ testing a flawed and dated form of intelligence grading (it seems a mild form of reassurance, saying you're not dumber than a bag of rocks). And IQ results can easily be misused for dubious political purposes.
And what are you now going to do since you know these numbers, even if you didn't think the IQ testing was flawed?

he's going to use them as the numerical part of his internet passwords

Last time I did an IQ test online I got 149 but I was drunk! Imagine what I would have gotten if I wasn't!

And the trend of high IQ scores continues in this thread. Everyone is not only above average, but well above average, a mathematical impossibility

Only one-third of 1% of all people have an IQ of 140 or greater.

Don't trust those online tests folks!

If there is one thing i have realise in all the years on this board is that the average user here has above average intelligence. The average Trekbbser tends to read more than average and most have an interest in science. We do have some stupid members but even some of them havenproved to be just an act.,

Both of my IQ tests were professional omes. I haven't ever done an IQ test onlime.

^ You could well be right about that. I do think it's a bit amusing though. Not everyone can have a score around 150! Even if most people on this board said they had scores around 120, it would still be very unlikely!

A lot of these testing places just want people to come out feeling happy.

I still have a copy of my Stanford-Binet IQ test I took in grammar school.

There's no number on it, but the classification is "very superior". From what I could find, that means in a range of 120-140.

I'm sure I lost a few points in college, though...
