I had read the tech they wanted in the 7 could not be ready in time and got pushed to the 8.
iPhone 7. Opinions?

Here's the thing, if they go by the usual convention then next years iPhone should be the iPhone 7s. Yet it will be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. I personally would like to see them do away with the "s" and just make the next iPhone the next number with each new one. I was at the Apple store today, got my iPhone 7 Plus and picked up a case and new Apple Watch band in Ocean Blue. I got to check out the new Apple Watch, I really like the ceramic one. I would love to see an iPhone made like the ceramic Apple Watch.
I wouldn't mind breaking convention to have a 'iPhone X' with some poignant name or symbol for one year.
The 7 is a placeholder because they have to have one this year for tradition, and meant for people who still haven't updated to the 6/7 series. I went from a 4S to 6S last year (4S is still running great on 9.3.5, battery isn't as terrible as you'd think) so I'm waiting for an 8S or something.
