All of the reasons discussed are moot if you live in an area where AT&T provides no service and want an iPhone.
I get absolutely zero service where I work, the financial district of a major city. And I decided not to move into my preferred neighborhood because AT&T provided no service in same major city there (not a huge deal, my second preferred neighborhood is almost as good, but it's the principle really).
Still, I am going to wait out my contract and hope an iPhone 5 launches on Verizon before switching. But if it's on a different refresh schedule, see ya AT&T. I just want to be able to use my iPhone's great features.
On a sidenote, I really don't think you're going to get THAT many new people switching, since AT&T's service is fine for a lot of the country (or so I hear). But San Fran and New York... look out.
