iPhone 4 (4G?) Phone Details and Pictures and Video "Leaked"

What carrier are you with? I will see what's available. I'll bet you don't even need a smartphone. Email, maps, and media players come standard with just about any decent phone nowadays. I'll try to pick out a well-reviewed one for you based on your carrier.

AT&T and thankyouverymuch, Robert. And for the record, I have no desire to change carriers. Funny how Verizon is poised to upgrade it's network to 4G soon and is doing better than AT&T. 10 years ago, the hatred and disgust for Verizon was long and wide. I've never had a problem with AT&T in over 15 years of service.

BTW - I'll need a phone that's compatible with International networks. I'm planning on much travel in the future.

Also, who is your email provider? If you need Exchange connectivity, options are limited--not all non-smartphones offer it. Gmail and some other free email providers are usually available on lower-end phones.
Gmail and sometimes Yahoo. FWIW - I could care less about having a camera on it (I curse the SOB who thought a camera and a phone should be mated).

Curious: Top 10 iPhone Alternatives.

I have the HTC Hero and love it, but the phones on that list are not all available on AT&T.

I went to AT&T's site and used their phone shopping system, picking out phones based on the following criteria:

* 3G
* GPS
* International
* Music

Then, I ranked them by average user rating.

Here are a few to check out:

Nokia E71x
BlackBerry Bold 9000
BlackBerry Bold 9700
Samsung Solstice
Motorola Karma
Samsung Mythic
iPhone 3GS (Which, for some odd reason, doesn't have any ratings. :wtf: )

I would definitely suggest using their phone shopping system, though, and checking the ratings and features on the phones. You can get to it here.

Thanks again, Robert. I've spent a few off/on moments checking my upgrade options, although I'd rather buy the equipment outright. I'm hesitant about anything Motorola as my first cell phone was a Motorola and I hated it. Bad battery life and it would get very, very hot. I guess technology has changed in 15 years :lol: User ratings, no matter the site or the product, are sketchy, at best, because some people don't know how to write a well worded review. "It SUCKS" is not helpful.

I would always recommend googling any phone you want and checking out its reviews elsewhere. No reason to rely solely on AT&T's ratings! I did that with my Palm Centro, and I am still very happy with it, even though Palm is all but dead as a platform now. :p

I'm going to check out the Samsungs at AT&T; however, a friend of mine let me play with his iPhone 3G during lunch, and I say I was greatly impressed. One selling point is that it (naturally) integrates with my existing Mac.

Before Android really broke out, the killer feature of the iPhone was the App Store. Now that the Android marketplace is getting more and more populated, that edge is melting away. Between the two, it's really shaping up to a Mac vs PC fight to my mind. iPhone offers unparalleled ease-of-use but several restrictions. Android (if Flash ever ships a functional product) will support the 'full web' and allows full root access over the phone, but sports several very unpolished UI features when not aided with an overlay like HTC's Sense.

I've had the original iPhone since launch and the potent combination of apps and the best mobile browser on the market still make it my preferred choice. I will be lined up, cash in hand, when the new iPhone is available here.

I have made the decision, I am going to get this new iPhone once it is released. It will be time for my full upgrade, so I can get the full discount, so I am going to get the new iPhone.

The smaller screen is putting me off.

The only thing I don't like about my 3Gs is the battery life. I had to get a Mophie Battery Pack/Case to get thru my day without running out of power half way thru lunch.

Well its a bigger screen than my BB Bold I'm using now :p I've never owned an iPhone before. If you want a bigger screen just get an iPad :p Hey, I want one!

I already have better than the iPad, a Thinkpad X61 Tablet :guffaw:

I would have considered it if it wasn't for the 5 inches of plastic border around the actual screen. :rolleyes:

I am getting very giddy. Just a few more weeks and the 4G should be out. Wal Mart is offering discounted 3G iPhones. I'm planning on a 3G-32 since I'm not a high roller like most people. Even though "old" technology, it will be light years ahead of my basic Nokia 2610 I have now.
