I hear Gizmodo paid Apple $10,000 to get this "leak", but yeah, anyway, it looks to be really it, the next version of the iPhone.

I like the new industrial design, flat, very sleek, thinner. Not too thrilled that the screen is smaller than the 3GS, maybe the enhanced image quality and longer battery life will make up the loss of a smaller screen. I really like it, my upgrade is available in June (i'm using a blackberry bold right now), but depending on when this thing comes out, I want it! I am definitely going to get a new iPhone, and I want this newer version.

The next iPhone will almost definitely be released around that time. The original iPhone was June 2007, the 3G was July 2008 and the 3GS was June 2009. No reason to expect them to break the pattern now.

Oh, I'm willing to believe Giz spent 10k to get their hands on the device, but I don't believe it was to Apple... Apple has never had a history of leaking actual hardware, only rumors and information. If they were going to do this, I would have to believe that it would be for a LOT more money than $10,000

As to the phone itself.. it's pretty. I have a Blackberry Curve 8320 through T-Mobile right now, and my contract is up in August. Barring this thing having any major flaws, I am a lock to get it. I just really hope they unlock the FM Radio chip in this model, and I would be very happy if they go multi-carrier so I can stick with T-Mobile (I'm not holding my breath, however, and I refuse to jailbreak the phone)

It's pretty, new design should have included a removable battery though.

That would have been good, I don't know why Apple is so against removable and replaceable batteries.

I do love the front facing and back facing cameras, that should be a must have feature now on phones.

Sweet, I just checked, my upgrade is available on June 26th, so hope it comes out this summer, cause I'll definitely wait for it, was going to go 3GS, but now with this, I WANT.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this is indeed the next iPhone (iPhone 4 or HD, what ever it is called) I'm on the 2 year cycle with iPhones, got the original iPhone the day it came out but skipped the 3G. Then I got the 3Gs the day it came out. So I'm not due till the following year, but that looks so nice. My wife needs to upgrade, for business reasons so if this is the new iPhone she will be getting it. So I'm left in a lurch, do I become the guy who gets it every year? As of right now, I'm holding my ground and say no. However I reserve the right to change that after the iPhone is announced in June.

So what's all this Micro-SIM business then?

It's just a smaller form factor SIM card with a few extra features, they're also used in the 3G iPads.
So it will be GSM then instead of the rumoured CDMA only? Very interesting... :vulcan:

Haven't heard any rumors about CDMA only but that's a pretty hard to believe rumor since most of the world is GSM. Besides, it's been 3 years of iPhones and it's been GSM only, why would they dump all their existing tech and some of their customers?

The rumours were circulating because of separate rumours that the exclusivity agreement between Apple and AT&T was coming to an end this year, and that Apple was looking to switch to Verizon (CDMA only) as the sole iPhone carrier.

So the fact that it's GSM is good considering I'm with Rogers.. :)

Based on the feature set, it sounds like they'll be on par with Android-based phones when they release this, assuming Android phones aren't on to something better by then.

Gizmodo admitted to paying $5,000 for the phone, and they bought it from the guy that found it.

And in other news, Apple is hiring for a position that was recently vacated.

I doubt it. This smells like an intentional leak to me.

Absolutely no chance. Apple (along with other companies) has always engaged in controlled links to build hype for their product launches (especially the iphone) - as part of that, we get nuggets of information that provide some clues but are never complete.

This means that when Jobs appears on the stage he can confirm much of what has been said and that say "and now it has a Flash!" (or whatever).

Allowing someone to spend weeks with the device, pull it to pieces and reveal pretty much everything about it, does not build that hype because it leaves nothing to hype.

What is Jobs suppose to do now, arrive on stage and say "That Gizmodo story was neat"?

Please, Gizmodo has hardly revealed anything. They don't even say what hardware is in the damn thing. And since it was deactivated so quickly, they can only comment on how the device looks and what ports it has. There is plenty left to hype, because what Gizmodo has only allows a taste of what the final product will be like.

While that's true, Apple hasn't ever done a "leak" before with the iPhone and Jobs is known to be pretty heavy handed when it comes to revealing stuff to the public. They like keeping their cards close to their chest, they like doing their big press conferences and they're not hurting for cash so they don't need $5k from Gizmodo. Besides, if this one thing the iPhone has taught us about Apple it's that they like control... and giving info to Gizmodo ahead of their unveiling loses them control on marketing.

Gizmodo, on the other hand, is riding this as far as they can. They even went as far as to post the name of the Apple employee who lost the phone as well as a transcript of a phone conversation with him. Which they wouldn't bother to fabricated if this was a fake leak... and is also a pretty jerky thing for Gizmodo to do.
