iOS 5 and iCloud go live

Downloaded the new Cloudafied, OSX Lion and no problems. However I am having an issue upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Still working on it, will check back in a little bit to give an update.

Still haven't been able to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. I just did a full restore and hopefully it will run now. I also had an issue updating my Macbook Pro to the new OSX Lion upgrade for the Cloud. It wouldn't unpack, probably corrupted while downloading. So I'm rerunning that. I was also not able to move from MobileMe to iCloud, I got an error message. So I'm waiting to see what happens with my iPhone before moving on to try and solve that. Not going well so far.

Looks like the crush of everyone trying to update is bogging down Apple. So I'm trying one more time, then I'm giving up for a few hours. May try again later on this evening, hopefully things may calm down so I can get this done.

Tom, it's a common bug, people get their phones wiped by iTunes then it cocks up.

I personally am having trouble getting into the Cloud. I sign in with my Apple ID, which tells me it's valid but isn't an iCloud account.

No shit. I'm trying to make one. Their instructions all lead me back to the same location which tells me to log in.

BUT I CAN'T!!

A few people commented that if your iPhone is full, it also won't upgrade. So I'm trying now after un-syncing a few things.

Started at about 1:30 today trying to update to iOS 5 and I just accomplished it at 10pm. Still needs to verify, but confident it will finish. Now on to see if I can transition from Mobile Me to iCloud.

upgrades my iPad2 without any major hassles (well the download of iOS5 dumped 3/4 on the initial download).

iCloud isn't really any interest because my uploads count against my downloads and if I'm supposed to be able to sync itunes from my PC over wifi I haven't got it mastered yet.

Update has been done for a while now, however I have a progress bar of Restoring iPhone Apps. Not sure what thats about, but I will let it finish. Updated my wife's iPhone 4 as well, her's took no time at all. In fact her iPhone completely caught up with mine and I started it over fifteen minutes earlier.

iOS 5 breaks most of the jailbreak tweaks I use so I might upgrade in a month or two when things are ironed out.

Macrumors forum is full of people struggling with iOS 5 and iCloud. Servers at Apple must be overloaded. You'd think they'd have put more on.

I left the iPad's to update over night, awoke this morning and the update to iOS 5 was complete. Now I'm trying to migrate to iCloud, lets see how that goes.

Anything really...it's ripped off android by putting in a pull-down notification bar...which is better on android...

it's ripped off kindle with the cloud and the wi-fi syncing...which the device has to be plugged in to use, and since i charge my ipod through my laptop...this does nothing for me!

all my music has somehow lost their album covers and it's reorganised my apps so they're in random order...

All in all I wish I hadn't bothered!

I'm holding off on the iPhone upgrade until after my holiday; by then things should have settled down. I'm holding off on Lion until my DVD ripping is complete in case it breaks Handbrake; also gives time for any issues to shake out.
