io9, which I have a love/exasperated relationship with, but nonetheless read:
(Which gets me to thinking: why did Big Jim/Fox rush out the Avatar re-release this summer, instead of now/at Christmas? Sure, the blu-ray and etc. weren't out then, but the movie was also a lot fresher on everyone's minds. I had no interest in seeing it twice in six months, but now that it's been almost a year, I'd definitely consider going again, especially given the competition.)
Anyway, I think it's cool that io9's sponsoring meetups, since my local friends are either too few, non-geeky, busy or broke to come along.
Anyone else going to any of these meetups?
The San Francisco one will be at the Metreon IMAX, 7pm show. I've decided to go. Why, you ask? Of all the winter movies being released this year, Potter doesn't appeal, and I'm perfectly happy to check out the prestige award movies (The King's Speech, Casino Jack) on DVD if at all. So, I bought the ticket not because I'm particularly excited for the actual movie, but more out of "why the heck not, at least that'll be something to see in IMAX 3D".Lifehacker, io9 and Gizmodo want to watch TRON: Legacy with readers in San Francisco, New York and everywhere else. Cosplay if you can. There may be a beer in it for you afterwards. The meetups will be December 17—opening night—and details are as follows. (link)
Not in SF or NY, that's OK! You can set up or find a TRON: Legacy Reader Meetup in your area here: Gizmodo, io9, and Lifehacker & TRON: Legacy Meetup on Meetup Everywhere
