Internet ads are hella lame

john titor

Captain
Seriously, like when I try to use myspace some frakken ad floats over the view screen and I'm thinking fck off, I don't give a sh1t about your produce. Or even on trek bbs there is an incredible annoying christian bale fighting ad, which is even worse as there is an unwanted punching sound. I feel my rights as a human being are being violated by the intrusiveness of such ads.

I did jury duty recently and I thought, yes I am a citizen not a consumer. It was the same glowy feeling I got when I attended the anarchist bookfair convention.

Yeah, the ad thing is the one thing that will probably eventually push me away from IE onto Firefox, because I think there's a Flash-killer addon you can get. I've searched for a free one for IE but have come up empty so far.

Hella. :nyah::)

Really, well that I didn't know. Kudos to you dude, kudos.

Flash killer is really easy. Go into Internet Explorer, go into Manage Add-ons, then disable it. When you need it for a news website or such you just go back and re-enable it.

Heh. Guess that was a little too obvious. This is one of those times I feel like a total retard. *clicks Disable button on Abobe Flash* Ah, much better. :)

I can't believe those "congratulations visitor #1532783, you won!" ads are still around, let alone with audio and on sites like TrekBBS. What is this, fucking 1999? :rolleyes:

What I really like is when I'm on a slow, old computer and I'm on a page where there's a video ad with sound that there's no option to disable. So because the computer is slow, the ad doesn't run smoothly and it's just choppy noise.

Get Firefox, get Adblock Plus and then start killing ads all over the Internet. This is my new best friend.

I don't even have to watch commercial interruptions in online streaming anymore. Huzzah!

*cough* Read the FAQ at the top of the page. *cough*
What's wrong with talking about ad blockers? While we acknowledge there are of course programs available that allow people to block ads when viewing websites, we hope that our visitors do not do so at our site. The Trek BBS relies on advertising to survive. If everyone blocked the ads, we'd have to close. While we cannot stop such systems, we can insist you do not discuss them here. Talking about any methods or programs – or indicating your use them – can result in an instant permanent ban without warning. This applies to both in a thread, and via private messaging. This rule is not up for debate.
So please do not talk about ways to circumvent site advertising under any circumstances.

When I was a newbie, I made the mistake of discussing Ad Block......once. :lol:
