Interesting teaser for next episode "Flatline"

Oddly. just based on what we've seen of this Doctor, I could totally see this happening in 1975 or 1976 with Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen as Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith. Sarah would probably be just as amused by a tiny TARDIS with the Doctor looking out at her.

This is a premise that would be very interesting to explore with a number of different companions and Doctors. Sarah Jane is a good example. I agree that she would probably react in the same amused way that Clara does.
I'd also like to see what Jo Grant would do in that situation or Tegan with her acerbic remarks.

I have the feeling from reading the posts on this site that it is thought that it is only a subset of fans who have reservations about the new Doctor Who. I attempted to demonstrate that it isn't only the fans who have reservations - some of the original crew and cast of Doctor Who have the same reservations. I should have included that in the original post.

Bear in mind that's just a very tiny sample from the classic show. When I hear actors from the classic show express an opinion about the new show, they're overwhelmingly positive.

It really is just a subset of fans who have reservation about the new Doctor. The ratings prove this.

I am up to 1970 in the commentaries. It will be interesting to see if there is a change in attitude as I hear cast and crew who are closer, time-wise, to the new Doctor Who. The show in the 1960s was more like a theatre drama on the telly. As the show progressed, it become more film-like.

Returning to "Flatline", when are they going to use the Chekov's Gun (Missy)? We are near the end of this season, and that arc has itself flatlined.

I am learning from the commentary for Classic Doctor Who that some of the original cast and crew have reservations about the new series. They feel that the dynamic between the Doctor and the companions has changed. They don't understand why the Doctor would be lonely - he could go anywhere and get a companion. They, also, felt that he should be somewhat aloof from his companions and be above romantic feelings. (Commentary - "Doctor Who and the Silurians")

1. We aren't making TV the same way we did decades ago. Audience have different expectations and appetites. So. yeah. things change. Nothing wrong with that. I don't mind that he's more involved in his companions. They are also more fully written than in the classic series. They aren't just exposition machines anymore.

2. Of course, the Doctor would feel lonely. The Fourth Doctor goes on how unique he is, he's much older than the people around him, he walks through time and space. He can't grow old with any of his companions, they'll turn to dust before he'll ever die. That sounds like a lonely horrible experience, all of your relationships would be temporary.

So, while I respect the original actors, I disagree with them.

Just to add, that back in the classic era the Doctor also had others of his own species to occasionally talk to, now he's very much the last of his kind. Humans are effectively a bit like cats or dogs to the Doctor, shorter lifespans, nowhere near his intellectual equal but loyal loveable companions who he cares about a lot. I like cats, but I'd miss talking to a fellow human some of the time!

By the 1980s, Peter Davison seems to have wanted at least a little more contact with his companions along the lines of David Tennant's Doctor.

And to be honest, Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding could be rather pleasing to the eye back in 1982.

And then of course there is Nicola Bryant....

So? A few people "have reservations," don't like the show, what is your point? There are always going to be people who don't like something.

Are the ratings suddenly plummeting?

That could be the Tardis model kit that Airfix put out a few years ago. I still have one tucked away that needs to be built.

I'm quite looking forward to the hissy-fit all the Clara haters are going to have over this episode.

And most of that's limited to the internet. I've yet to see video of Moffat or the actors being boo'ed by a live audience.

Stir up a bee hive, get stung by a swarm of bees, end up regretting being so stupid.

Looking at the teaser, I am reminded of the physics lesson that the Fourth Doctor gave to Leela about transcendental dimensions.

Every single show that has every been made that has an update has cast members from the original version running it down - this isn't actually anything to do with Who.

Besides, quite a few members of the cast of Classic Who have come out with reservations about their era of Who. ;)
