Interesting By-Product of the Caption Contests

Hiya, folks.

While powering through "The Apple" the other night, I was reminded of something that happens a lot because of the Caption Contests.

When a scene comes on that we've, uh, played with, I get kicked completely out of the story as the jerky captions/photoshops we did run through my brain. In "The Apple" for instance, when it got to the bit with Spock and McCoy squatting in the bushes, I replayed a ton of the "Spock takes a dump" captions we came up with.

And that's not to mention Balok Puppet. That fucker has popped up in every episode, just about.

Anyone else have this happen, or is it just me?

Just did the same thing while watching "Wold in the Fold" when Scotty, the Belly Dancer, Kirk and McCoy stand up before Scotty goes for a walk with the doomed damsel.

Aside from the FX reels on YouTube, I haven't seen very much of TOS in quite some time, but I will admit to having to stifle a snicker or two when the remastered "Devil in the Dark" turned up on local TV on a Sunday afternoon last year.

I've started doing that too, suddenly I find myself thinking "ah, last week's caption contest!". Occasionally, when there's a very funny caption associated with it, I start going a little MST3K in my head.

Ive been doing the same. Sometimes i lose the whole episode just because i thought of a photoshop or a caption.

Scotty: "And me without a finger" :guffaw:

My experience is a little different. I watch an episode and see a shot that makes me think, I wonder if there is a screen cap of that?

I now have a notepad with me when I watch Star Trek. :p

I used this picture out of Operation: Annihilate! because of that:

This is as good a time as any to say this:

Joe, I took over the caption contest because you left. I am glad to do it. It's fun. But if you ever want it back, just ask me. I said at the time I was simply the fill-in host and I still think that. Any time you want to take over, even for just a while, it's yours, buddy. :)

I may send you a possible screencap here and there, but my time is fluctuating badly and I'd hate to drop away for any length of time.

Plus, it's easier to just throw the rotten eggs rather than have to go into the chicken coop and gather them up first, if you know what I mean.

Plus, you're doing a great job. Much appreciated. It's harder than it seems, isn't it?

Joe, bawk-bawk

You've got it. I'll look forward to your contributions.

And yes, it is certainly a time consuming task, although the new, speedier board makes it a lot easier.

Spock loved his new baby, but even with his husband's help, the breastfeeding was just too much work.

I had the same feeling, too.

McCoy: "How could anyone think we're taking a crap out here?"

Spock: "Maybe because your pants are down."

McCoy, reaching down: "Turn your head and cough."
<three minutes pass>
McCoy: "I'm waiting ..."

"Just great! Here are, up to our eyebrows in Da Kine,
and... wait, we did that one already, didn't we?"
"Indeed, Doctor."

Re: the above caption, I got a dose of the reverse when I watched Predator for the first time in years after that contest. When I heard the troops talking about being stalked by a giant lizard, I thought "Hey, Bones said that!"

SPOCK:"The...the captions...Captain...the captions.

They...they're so LAME..."

"Well, Spock...you did it again.

Beam us down to a planet full of high-fiber, edible plant life and you FORGET to bring any toilet paper."
