Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terror"?

"Balance of Terror" from the original series was one of Star Trek's best episodes and the Romulan Commander had a line that has suddenly become very relevant to Star Trek again: "I regret that we meet in this way. You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend," Wow, with the new reality in Star Trek this would be a great basis for a new Star Trek film!:klingon:

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

Yeah I thought about that two, since this IS another reality they could make Kirk and the Balance of Terror Romulan commander buddies.

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

That'll get butts in the seats.

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

Who was the Romulan commander again? Can't remember him.

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

I don't think that Mark Leonard's character had a name other than Commander.

"Balance Of Terror" was a great episode and using the similar theme of a cloaked Romulan Bird-Of-Prey terrorizing starships and planets across the planets in a U-Boat style movie would work great! The original basis for the episode was from "Run Silent, Run Deep" and "Das Boot" today you could look to "U-571" or "The Hunt For Red October" for inspiration a cloaked ship originaly was a submarine in space and that can still work.

A Romulan film would be a great movie to put 'butts in seets'!:bolian::klingon:

Good point considering Star Trek (2009) was a Romulan movie and it did indeed get buts in seats.

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

I assume that Ben Cross would play the Commander. :D

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

Heh heh heh, I was wondering when someone would bring that up.

Maybe this time around they can do what they thought about originally doing with Saavik: Have her be the daughter of Spock and the Female Romulan Commander.

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

I wonder if future movies could have the Romulans as allies instead of villains as they've been so many times since Star Trek first began. It would be a neat twist and make sense given what happened in the movie.

Maybe the Romulans could denounce Nero's actions (after all, he said he didn't speak for the Empire) and try to help the Federation out of sympathy and also (finally) allow unification with the Vulcans to help them out with their new predicament caused by him.

Then maybe we could get some new villains or have a role reversal where the Klingons revert back to villains (after being allies in the Star Trek universe since about 1991, aside from the brief period in DS9 when they became enemies again).

I really like the lines of thought I am seeing here. We could see the nobler aspects of Romulan character come through!

Re: Inspiration; remember the Romulan Commander from "Balance Of Terro

Very interesting ideas. The thought of reunification, with the Vulcans, could be very novel and a great catch for this universe. All sorts of new concepts and ideas could come from this.

I like these ideas. The Romulan Commander played by Mark Lenard was one of my favourite TOS character. :techman:
