Inspector Spacetime

I'd never heard of Inspector Spacetime until I saw this thread - and even though I haven't investigated it further, it sounds like a lot of fun.

devastatingly funny is not first two words to come to mind, I didnt think it was funny at all.

I believe most of the humor comes not from the skit, but from Abed's reaction. If it's a Doctor Who analogue and Abed declares it the greatest show he's ever seen (and he's seen a LOT of TV), then by extension, that means Doctor Who is the greatest show he's ever seen :)

Actually the funnier bit is that Abed knows about Doctor Who; he's made references to it before.

And remember, Britta said Inspector Spacetime started in 1962. Dan Harmon's said that it's intended that in Community Doctor Who is an Inspector Spacetime ripoff. :p

just to add to that, is there any chance that Inspector Spacetime, has had a years worth of his adventurous turn out to be his companions dream?

I think that it was actually being used along with the Downton Abby spoof to show how great the British TV schedule model is. Shows that don't get 100 episodes are still considered successful if they receive critical acclaim. I think that the American model, at least as far as syndication is concerned, would do very well to shift to a lower number than magic 100.

I think the number has been dropping a bit and is now down to 88.

I'm trying to figure out the exact date at which Inspector Spacetime would have premiered. Since Doctor Who's debut coincides with JFK's assassination, I'm thinking some celebrity was born on the day that Inspector Spacetime debuted. (Best options I can think of for 1962 celebrities are Jim Carrey, Demi Moore, Roger Clemens, Jodi Foster, & Jon Bon Jovi. Too bad they didn't say it started in 1961, then it could coincide with Barack Obama's birth.)

It's as silly as Trekkies getting their knickers in a twist (and some did as I recall) over this:

(This as from the long-gone Fox animated series The Critic).

:guffaw:I remember this. How can anyone not love Worf doing a hambone!?!?:guffaw::guffaw:

Ok, so it's Dallas then? For a moment I thought this was a real Whovian Happening.

There is a thread on here, where some of us discovered that

a) Dallas had a spin-off called Knots Landing
b) Knots Landing was set in a timeline where JR never came out of the shower, and is dead, rather than his death being a dream, as it was on Dallas.

I love Community, and whereas this particular clip in itself is not very amusing, what makes it absolutely funny is the fact that it's the exact reaction people have to Doctor Who in The States.
