Inspector Spacetime

You did - "Blake's 7". It even had a Federation and everything.

In return, you can copy "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda" next. :P

Can we make our own Star Trek now then?
well we have our own Law & Order now, so I dont see why the launch of the USS Britannia should be delayed further

I do however take issue at this

devastatingly funny Doctor Who spoof

devastatingly funny is not first two words to come to mind, I didnt think it was funny at all.

Still if it puts an end to the My Little Pony meme, it can only be a good thing.

I laughed so hard when I saw that on Community!

The cool thing is that this is a joke that would be nowhere near as funny if it were done on a British comedy.

^^ Exactly... On a british show, their spoof would be a bunch of Americans in cowboy hats, playing cops who strike poses and always shoot the bad guys..

I think that it was actually being used along with the Downton Abby spoof to show how great the British TV schedule model is. Shows that don't get 100 episodes are still considered successful if they receive critical acclaim. I think that the American model, at least as far as syndication is concerned, would do very well to shift to a lower number than magic 100.

This isn't to say that British TV or American TV have inherently better shows or writing, just that I'd like to see other shows in syndication, and shorter seasons if need be.

Don't be surprised if we see more "Inspector Spacetime" on or off Community in the near future. I gather much interesting info working with struggling actors in LA. ;)

The more I think about this, the more it makes me smile, especially how quickly some other people on the internet have just run with it. I already want a Sprock compilation album!

I also feel like I need to start watching Community now. I've never before seen such a cute, loving play for my affections coming from a show that I don't watch. So what was the broader context for that scene? Who was that blonde woman? And will she marry me?

that is hardly unique, look at (for example) My Little Pony, and how that has been subverted for web culture

Communities' hilarious! It's always trying to reinvent itself, some bits work and some don't, but still funny nevertheless.

I believe most of the humor comes not from the skit, but from Abed's reaction. If it's a Doctor Who analogue and Abed declares it the greatest show he's ever seen (and he's seen a LOT of TV), then by extension, that means Doctor Who is the greatest show he's ever seen :)

I don't know what's funnier, the spoof or the stone-faced reaction by some fans. Over on an SFX magazine blog page, one reader has responded by calling it a "blistering attack on the show and its fans!" Good god, let's pass a law now banning Doctor Who from being parodied right now! If you want to see "blistering attacks" look at some of the spoofs done in Britain over the years.

It's as silly as Trekkies getting their knickers in a twist (and some did as I recall) over this:

(This as from the long-gone Fox animated series The Critic).

Sorry, anyone who took this as a negative towards DW is a moron. If it weren't for copyrights and all that crap, they would have used Doctor Who instead of having to make up Inspector Spacetime. There was nothing negative. Abed was looking for a show that he would like and will not be cancelled quickly. He has 32 seasons to watch.
