There just wasn't enough story there, or character development, or flow. . . you could have taken out just about any sequence and put in something completely different without changing the movie as a whole. It was entertaining and well directed in spite of that mess of a script, but that is about the best I can say for it.

Personally I loved the irony of the movie, which hardly anyone else seems to have picked up on.

At the end when Hitler and Goebbels are laughing hysterically as the Allies are being massacred by a Nazi sniper, nearly everyone in the audience was acting outraged and angered. Then, when all the Nazis started dying like fish in a barrel, the entire audience roared with cheers.

Did people really not get that? I think they did. That was like...the entire point. Very meta.

I voted bad. I really hated it. Depite being a Tarantino-fan.

The good guys-bad guys thing was dreadfull overstaded, the story lived from the violence exclusevily an Pitt was so bad it made me cringe every time he appeared on screen.

And I must agree with firehawk
Well, the problem with that is that the only reason why the "real" Germans lost WW2 was because of Hitler's insane command structure.

I mean, all the incompetent leadership was killed... leaving all the "true" commanders left on the field to act without political interference. At that point, they probably would have won the war - or at least caused a protracted stalemate leading to a conditional surrender.
But I'm not even going into the historical point. The movie itself was bad inough.

Forgive my drivel guys, but that let's-call-it-a-movie does get me worked up some:scream::brickwall:

I seriously couldn't disagree more.

The idea that the Wehrmacht fought an honourable war and only lost because of the insanity of Germany's political leadership has been around since the end of the war and is imo 100% bullshit. Hitler made some terrible military decisions, but he always had senior military people around him and the troops had much freedom in their decision making.

What you are saying is a revisionist lie imo.

And you're just as wrong about Inglorious Basterds too.

Now hang on a sec. I am most definetly NOT saying that it was a honourable war! The sheer idea is ludicrous. What I mean is that IF Hitler had been murdered the war COULD have had a different outcome. Personaly I am very happy that it didn't. I live in Germany after all.

I'm trying not to be offendet by the revisionist comment by the way.

And I'm not wrong about the movie. I find it a waste of time and space, but that is my personal opinion. This is not a matter of right or wrong, it's a discussion of taste. I don't like it, you do. Fine. This is not a compitition for you or me to win.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply you're a supporter of a certain political direction (and I assumed you're American which changes things), my only point really was, that the Wehrmacht lost the war, not just the Nazis. And I do believe murdering Hitler at the time it happened in the movie would have shortened the war significantly.

It's ok, no hard feelings then:techman: I hope you forgive me my little panic attack, but we germans are just a little tiny bit neurotic when it comes to this part of history.

I can live with your point of view. This whole discussion is hypothetical anyways.

It comes down to Tarantino in the end, and I think everybody is going to concede to the point that he his quite controversial. His work tends to divide the audience.

Cheers.

Really enjoyed the beginning in the farm house, and loved the end were Hitler gets shot to bits, the rest in the middle was meh for me.

While that was a possible intentional irony from Tarantino however I didn't feel outraged or angered during the massacre by Nazi sniper nor did I cheer when the theater was set on fire and hitler was shot to a pulp. I did laugh out loud at the latter part because it was over the top comical violence just like certain scenes in the Kill Bill movies.

Absolutely brilliant on Tarantino's part. And for those saying that Brad Pitt sucked in this movie, you're all daft. He was great. His character was meant to be every bit as larger-than-life and over-the-top as the villains were. He nailed it. And hell, I still get a laugh at the whole Italian thing. "Right, like I said: You speak the third best Eye-talian."

Yes Mr. Pitt was fuckin' A in the movie. I especially liked his look when the Jew Hunter started speaking fluent Italian and when he said "Arri-vi-der-ci" with a southern accent.
