Infuriating work situations

Actually, it's a bit like that bit in Planet of the Apes, where Charlton Heston is in a cage, trying to show the apes he is intelligent, writing in the dust, and the other human keeps wiping it out. Some people are very frustrating and you wonder what their real intention is. They could be the next gen, rather than retards. There was an American in the bar with me yesterday, and there are tortured, misplaced souls, wherever you go.

Well, in the long run, it may be that their behaviour, instinctive or determined, makes the chavs more successful in passing on their genes. In that case, they, rather than the chimps or the meek, shall inherit the earth.

All the scientists and philosophers and engineers that make this world, and some do come from this place, leave it. The people that run this place, know they need such people, but they treat the ones inside who aspire to it, like s*** and then wonder why they leave. They are very good at doing other things besides inventing, philosophising and creating, though. They're hard workers. It takes allsorts to make a world.

your indeterminate use of "they", "them", and "those" in your sentences really confuses the hell out of what you're saying.

I can't see, how, when I talk of scientists and dreamers and engineers and 'chavs', who are not doing something to the extent they could.

You don't want any situation where peoples talents aren't recognised, are wiped out,if they can contribute. That's suicidal. Actually, the two most obnoxious and self-centred and reverse-eugenically minded chavs I have ever met, both had a little James T Kirk in them, just a little, and admired him, so a bit of them will be here in the 23rdC. It's all going to get sorted out by then and we will still be here.

If you ever do visit a run-down area, talk to the shy ones at the back, the ones that don't come forward and introduce themselves and play the professional underdog a bit. It's the shy ones, as well as the others, that are worth talking to.

To get back to the OP, at the moment, my project's main themes are getting leaked while I am halfway through them and I am accused of being lazy and apathetic when I can't finish them, due to this. When I complain about it, shout at people, that causes trouble too. I get listened too, but the credit for nothing and the blame for everything. Just my own office with a title outside it would be great. I had this done to me about twenty years ago. My supervisor kept winding me up and making out I was lazy and eventually my boss showed me the door, as my superior smirked. I think this is a problem in offices the world over. My project will be in the pipes this time next week, and i have others.

There definitely seems to be a lot of hostility between you and the world around you--everyone seems so unfriendly. You frequently go into a real "me vs. them" mode. I'm not there, so I don't know who's in the right, but it seems to me that this isn't going to work out well for you. I'd say that maybe trying to find what you have in common with those around might be someplace to start, or, as others have suggested, moving somewhere you feel you'll get a fairer shake. If everyone around you is as bad as you believe they are, it doesn't seem likely that they'll suddenly realize you're the bees knees and defer to your superior will.

I meant grammatically. Your sentences are confusing.

It's not just grammatical. CJ keeps describing specific situations in generic terms. That only works when everyone has a common frame of reference. By now it should be clear that we don't.

CJ you need to start giving specific examples of your situation. No one will be able to relate to you, or even understand you at any significant level, until you do.

I, for one, feel very terrible for Cheapjack. He is merely another victim in this terrible world of ours where groups like, including but not limited to, women, employers, employees, parents, neighbors and anti-book readers are out to get you at every possible moment. It's heartbreaking and brings a tear to my eye.

It's difficult when they have access to your computer.

I realise I'm generalising and speciifying at the same time. I'm just trying to share and help, cos as other posters have said, 'what's the point in trying to do good in the world, when bad is so richly rewarded?'.

This project I'm working on at the moment, could get passed to another company, if I don't get it finished soon. And the person who is putting me off, who is supposed to be doing their best for the company, will smirk the most, and the company will suffer as a result of their vindictiveness.

If you want to find out who is the leaker, lookk for the one who smirks the most!

Hope this helps.

If they have access to your computer and to your account, use PGP or similar encryption. Also keep your personal stuff on a USB drive or similar.

Passwords, encryption software, misleading file names, these are all your friends.

People who say that are not worth the time of day. You need to worry about doing what you think is right, irrespective of the opinions of people who haven't evolved out of their ancestral ape minds.

Again, you need to focus on what you can control, and leave other people to act as they see fit. Take whatever precautions are necessary to protect yourself, but understand that negative actions and words come from unhappy or unstable minds. These people deserve to be pitied (and helped but that is beyond the scope of this thread). In any event the opinions of other people, apes or Martians are not at all relevant to you going about your business.

Thanks for all your help. I am going to go ahead and finish this project, within a week, and if it gets taken off me, and I don't think it will, it will be agonising, but I have other ideas and your precautions are very useful.

Tears taste so GOOD...

There are people and things that disturb/annoy/infuriate me. And this is a minor example ... It bothers me when people don't tell me about their plans that might have an impact on me or my schedule. It's totally inconsiderate.

There are two older Asian ladies at work (whom I shall "Sue" and "Gina") who are my "lunch buddies." We usually meet in the dining room of our building, or when neither one brought her lunch, we decide to go out and eat somewhere. This has been a given arrangement, but we typically communicate via e-mail or verbally to confirm our lunch plans.

The three of us are also part of a bigger lunch group consisting of nine people, and our organizer "Harry" sends out a note to meet at a restaurant once a week. It just so happened that today Harry had a special meeting and couldn't make it, but my lunch buddy Sue decided to send a last-minute invite to the group to go to a nearby Chinese restaurant for lunch. Five people, including me, and Harry, who was unavailable to begin with, declined the invitation.

So Sue said to me, "It doesn't look like people want to go." That sort of left me with the impression that the group lunch was not taking place at all, or that perhaps it was, but only four attendees could make it. In any case, Sue did not confirm with me directly what the plan was, and I just decided I'd walk over to a nearby Mexican place, get a burrito, and have lunch at my desk, which I did later.

Furthermore, my other inconsiderate lunch buddy Gina didn't sent a note or confirm with me what her plans were. Did she bring her lunch today? Did she decide to go with Sue and the others? I didn't know; she never said anything. I only caught a glimpse of her when she waited on the others to go to the stupid Chinese restaurant.

Personally, I very much enjoy having lunch by myself, either at my desk or out somewhere. In fact, I feel like I'm always obligated to meet the two Asian ladies for lunch. That they decided to go somewhere for lunch or had other plans didn't bother me; it was the fact that they did NOT say anything to me about their plans. It was very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

So tomorrow I will not have lunch with the Asian ladies.
