Inertial dampers question

inertial dampers keep the crew from smashing into walls when changing speeds on a star ship correct? say... if they went offline wile dropping out of warp, the ship would slow too quickly, and everyone would hit something and turn to mush.

these could be used now, in RL. like on commercial airliners. but, sort of unpractical. they would be pretty useless since planes dont go from 9million mph to 10k mph in 3 seconds. the only use i see is if the plane is in a nose dive. maybe for fighter pilots so they dont experience G's?

Inertial dampeners are the supposed device that decreases the effective mass of objects onboard so that they do not get thrown around while the ship changes acceleration. If an object appears to have no mass, it doesn't get thrown around (except in battle, where the reaction time of inertial dampers becomes apparently slow).

It might be useful on planes, cars, and boats to keep people from getting motion sickness.

i thought they where the devices used to keep you from slamming into a wall when a ship accelerates.... like, stand on plane, plane accelerates rapidly, you fall.
