Indiana Jones 5!

I've loved the Indiana Jones franchise ever since it debuted, and even my disappointment in "KotCS" hasn't dimmed that. Yet I'm not that thrilled at the prospect of the new films. I'm nearly always willing to give the producers another chance, but I'm just not sure if there's enough left in the tank on this. I'm hoping that they spend most of their energy in an engrossing story, as opposed to more special effects. Granted, today's blockbuster films seem engaged in an ever increasing spiral of "top that!", so who can blame Paramount if that's the path they take.

I will go see any new Indy film that comes out, bank on it. However, this next time I may not go to the midnight premiere.

I really hope they don't make a fifth one. For no other reason than I'd like to avoid another 7000 terrible "He's old!" jokes and puns. We get it, he's older now.

It could work if they made his age an integral part of the storyline.

I didn't mind the aliens. I just have to wonder why they had to be "pan-dimensional aliens."

They could have just as easily been from OUR dimension without taking anything away from the story. And I would have preferred if we didn't actually SEE the aliens at the end.

That said, if they wanna make another one, more power to them.

Well, you only see the alien for four frames, and having them from another dimension defines even more the word 'Alien'

I hope they make another. 4 was the first one I've liked of the series, TBH. The others didn't have enough adrenaline for my tastes, and the dialogue was stuffy. The 4th one though was really good. Not that it would have been as good without 1-2-3, just saying, 4th was favorite.

Are you serious :wtf: The truck chase in the original (never mind the obvious models) doesn't get your adrenaline running? Being sealed in a tomb of snakes doesn't get your adrenaline running? Finally determining the location of the Ark doesn't get your adrenaline running?

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the first Indy movie that I found to be boring for long stretches. That was what I saw as its #1 failing, not anything about the subject matter. An Indiana Jones movie shouldn't be boring.

Clearly a lot of people didn't feel similarly. I'm glad that there's excitement about more movies.

The prospect of another one leaves me rather cold. I didn't enjoy KOTCS that much. I think they had huge potential but somehow managed to maneuver around it most of the time, in my opinion, at least.

If and when a fifth one does arrive, I'll certainly be checking out the trailers and all. But whether I'll go see it at the cinema remains to be seen.

Crystal Skull was such a shitty movie. It's obvious in every frame that Spielberg was sitting behind his monitors yawning.

The original 3 Indiana Jones movies are a collection of pure brilliance. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is not a terrible movie but I don't think anyone can honestly say that it was good enough to merit 19 years of anticipation. (I'll bet far fewer people would have been complaining if the movie had been made 10 years earlier.)

I think the biggest reason why The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull isn't as good as the 1st 3 is because I don't think Harrison Ford has any particular interest in making movies anymore. I think he's just as believable as ever in the action scenes. It's not his age. He just doesn't seem interested anymore. He's not really trying. He lacks that "Oh shit, how did I ever get into this!?!" incredulity that made his early work so exciting.

Still, I don't begrudge them the desire to make a 5th film. And I'll probably see it at some point, especially if they bring back Sallah!

I rank the films this way-

1. Raiders Of The Lost Ark
2. Indianan Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
2. Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
3. Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom

After the last one, no more please.

And it's not going to be very adventurous when Indy is wearing cok bottle glasses and using a crutch.

OK...we waited 19 years for an Indy movie (it wasn't that good) but I do hope we got all of our Geritol jokes out of the way during the last movie. He was 65 when he made the 4th movie, he'll be about 67 for this one...that old+ and now old++.

I'm certainly up for more, though I thought Kingdom was a slight disappointment. I'm still not big on the whole
extradimensional aliens
thing, but I get that they were trying to go for a 50s sci-fi movie feel.

I still don't understand what the problem was, I mean there were melting and exploding heads in 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark', pulling hearts out and the person is still alive in 'Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom', and a man ages to death in 'Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade', so the themes in 'Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull' were right up the same ally. Kind of neat it came out close to 2012, the year of the aliens. I like the creepy/eerie sounds in the new movie as well.

I agree. I also feel that the "supernatural presence" of Kingdom matched the decade's hysteria it was trying to represent: the 50s. What era did flying saucers and little green men start entering the public consciousness? The 50s. Lucas has always strived to accurately represent the themes and public consciousness of the eras he's depicting.

Yeah but the Ark, Sankara Stones, and Grail were at least grounded in some kind of historical fact, with stories that have been around for thousands of years; it's not that hard at all to imagine those artifacts having some kind of hidden supernatural power.

The alien/Roswell/Mayan thing on the other hand is nothing but cheap National Enquirer crap that's only been around the last 80 years or so. You might as well send Indy after the Mummy or Frankenstein next. lol :D
