Inbetweeners star cast as the Doctor in new Big Finish mini-series

Details of Big Finish's upcoming UNIT miniseries Dominion starring Sylvester McCoy have been announced. The surprise is that Alex Macqueen of The Inbetweeners has also been cast as a previously unknown incarnation of the Doctor in the story who apparently teams up (or something) with the Seventh Doctor and a couple of Seven's recent audio companions, Ace and UNIT. The whys and wherefores of all that are presumably going to be revealed in the story.

Big Finish has created new (or alternate) Doctors before in its Doctor Who Unbound series, but this is the first time they've done this in what you'd call a "main continuity" release. Looks interesting. Reading the write up I wonder if this is a follow-up to Inferno.

I see on that same "specials" page they have two Sixth Doctor stories that are coming out in November/December that can be downloaded for just one dollar each, if one pre-orders. And the cd of each is only $8. That's awesome, absolutely will be ordering. :)

I like Macqueen in both The Thick of It and The Inbetweeners but I don't know that I could take him seriously in a role after seeing him in those shows. Even in a voice-only role, I'd be waiting for him to say or do something stupid.

Not dying on the idea of an alternate Doctor interacting with a 'real' one but since I don't really buy audios, I suppose they don't need to worry about my views!

I'm excited, but mostly because I know that both Klein and Raine are great characters. Where's Bambera, though? Shame! On the other hand, something misleading and probably dull is happening with the "Another Doctor," I'll be bound.

Ace is not in the story.

Jesus, for a horrifying moment I thought you meant one of the young main character twats. If you'd have said Lord Julius Nicholson, I'd have understood immediately. He's good.

Interesting, I wonder if the story explains where in the Doctor's timeline this other incarnation comes from.
