I'm British so obviously the inaugauration means different and less things to me. However, I came home from work to watch Mr Obama being sworn in. I really enjoyed watching the event. When he and the Chief Justice (?) got their lines a little wrong, I noticed the look on Obama's face. He seemed to be smiling in an encouraging way at the other guy. A bit "it's okay, we'll get there in the end." I enjoyed his inaugauration speech a great deal, and I always think its interesting to listen to the contrast of American and British orators. It seems to be that American leaders are all about "we'll do this together" and British leaders are all "we've decided we're going to do this for/to you", so that's always refreshing. For a moment watching Obama I could understand a little of where the American psyche is and what your heritge and mindframe is. So, that was good.
One thing I thought was a bit peculiar. The Obamas and the Bidens were standing together for a photo call after the Bushes had left. Mrs Biden seemed to sequeez her husband and Mrs Obama closer in to the photo, like it was a family get together or something and they all couldn't get in frame. Biden even had to move a couple of steps closer. It was a really odd moment and seemed inappropriate. I can't really explain it. Still, excitement of the moment and all that.
