RIP brave soldier, although you were a suicidal idiot and put the survival of the human species in danger because of your incompetence.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

The poor redshirt (Chief Engineer Olson, FYI) lasted longer against Jack Bauer (season 3) than against a Romulan mining drill.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

What terrible attempt at an accent was that, anyway? He deserved to die for that.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

haha, was he in 24? knew I recognised him from somewhere.

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

WTF!, only one red shirt, i'm ashamed of "Abram's Star Trek" - I hope it fails! :vulcan:

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

He didn't have an accent, he spoke in non-regional received pronunciation, meaning there was nothing that could tie him to any region. Sort of BBC English, if you will. Everyone else did have an accent though, apart from Sarek that is.

I can just tell you his character's name and it'll conjure up all the crap from the "Mexico" part of season three... Michael Amador.

I would imagine it's an English accent since the actor is English.

I thought for a moment it was a bad attempt at an Australian accent, with the "mate" thrown in, but perhaps he's just from a particularly unfortunate region of England...

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

It's no accent at all. Do your homework. :)

Actually, saying someone has an accent is a matter of perspective. Trust me, I'm a linguist.

Huh? We say mate in England. Everyone I know does.

hah, of course - and had a bad british accent in that as well. In fact if he is British I'm surprised

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

Its all good. I'm from Brooklyn but my Brooklyn accent is shit

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

I fail to recognise American accents apart from the basic North/South thing, but to me, all of you have "an accent". It's a matter of perspective.

What's a Brooklyn accent like?

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

He was also the British Air Force general in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Uprising. There's nothing wrong with his accent in that, it's a standard private school educated accent.

His name was Robert Paulson, his name was Robert Paulson, his name was Robert Paulson, his name was Robert Paulson, his name was Robert Paulson, his name was Robert Paulson...

In the world of Philology, we call that NRP.

(Side note: Kirk mentioned the basic parts of linguistics, but in the wrong order. I still got giggly though, "phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax". Tee-hee)

Its sort of hard to describe, though it is extremely distinctive. Its essentially a common accent in the North Eastern united states, created by the influx of Italian immigrants http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn_accent

If you ever saw the tv show Friends, the character Joe spoke with a Brooklyn accent

Re: In this thread, we remember the "red-shirt" that died in this movi

Okay, that helps. Cheers!

You talk like that? Very cool.
