In Shatner's own words...

Really, ktanner3. You must learn to govern your passions; they will be your undoing.

Sounds like maybe you are the one who is having a hard time accepting this.

Maybe you should open up a few more threads on the subject, just so this issue is thoroughly and properly covered.

Nice try, but this is the only thread I've opened on william shatners comments. But thanks for playing.

You must have forgotten about the other William Shatner threads you recently posted in.

Try doing some Sudoku puzzles. It focuses the memory.

Reread what I wrote braniac. I said that this was the first thread I opened myself. And I'll post in as many threads as I see fit.Now do you have anything to say on this subject or not? If you don't, please go solve your Sudoku puzzles and stop trolling.

I take it all back. After reviewing your original post in this thread and finally perceiving how highly relevant it is, and how likely it is to inspire intelligent debate on the matter, I think you made the right call.

Here you go then. Let's see how important shatner really is to the success of this movie.

I couldn't care less about Shatner being in this film. If I wanted stunt casting, I'd watch another episode of New Voyages.

Okay, guys....I think we can do without the back & forth snarky remarks. I'm tryin' to work on a word jumble over here. :p

Thanks tons! ;)

Judging by the poll so far I'd say your opinion is pretty much the norm.

Will William Shatner make a difference to the new movie's box office potential?
Yes, I think he will. If that bloated egomaniac is in the film, I think it will only hurt the movie at this point.

Oh vei...

I should have added for positive or negative. ../slaps forehead

Well, given the inexplicable Shatner hate around these parts, I suspect that you're going to get a lot of negative responses to that poll.

That says nothing, of course, about how Shatner's appearance would be/will be received by the public-at-large and/or less "invested" (for lack of a less diplomatic term ;) ) Trekkies around the world.

And the only person whose opinion is relevant to whether Shatner should be in the film is J.J. Abrams. The rest don't matter. So unless J.J. personally responds to your poll, this is all just academic.

So we're back to where we started. We have no idea. But we'll find out on 12/25/2008.

And like I said, I don't care either way. But my gut feeling at the moment is that Shatner will be in the film.

Once again, Cogley gets to the bottom line and is absolutely correct in his opinion.

I still don't get why he would be in this film.

Didn't Kirk die in the 7th film? How would they bring him back for this one without devoting to much time in the film explaining why he's back from the dead?

Do you really think the general audience Paramount is aiming for even knows that Kirk is supposed to be dead? Or even cares how this movie fits with a marginally successful but mostly forgotten movie from 1994?

In answer to the poll, no and no.

Shatner being in it wouldn't necessarily help it and no it wouldn't stop me from seeing it. It's well down on the list of things that would stop me from seeing it :)

Me neither. Considering the fact he spent years distancing himself from Star Trek and only seemed to care when he could turn a profit by writing about it. And any time he was asked about a Trek related project other than his own EG:TNG,DS9,Voyager,Enterprise he was very dismissive and gave off the impression that he didn't give a damn. Guess we won't be seeing him at the premiere.

That's exactly my problem with it. I don't think we should have to spend any time retracing an error that was made from the creative team for Generations. Kirk after Generations is dead. If you want to say that we are reminising before his death fine. But then again that would only give Mr.Ego a small cameo.
