In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the apes?

Cingular

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Who would you much rather have on your side in a battle in the Planet of the Apes universe : humans or apes and please say why.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

Apes are hypocritical to the extreme. We see ape characters accusing humans of being barbaric and uncivilized and all that crap - but the ape civilization engages in the exact same kinds of activity.

At least humans are honest in their savagery!

So I'd have to take humanity's side, really. :)

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

That's the beauty of the Apes series. It's basically one giant misanthropic piece (as in 'hating' humankind) and uses said apes and brand them with all those humankind flaws. You cannot properly take one side because the tale is all about man.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

Yes the apes are human, that's the whole point of the series. They think they are better than us, but in thinking so they have become us.

Neither side.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

The apes just wanted power. That's all they ever cared about. Once their civilization rose, they felt free to engage in all of the things they hate humans for. Human civilization did not deserve to fall, but the apes gloated over it anyway and took full advantage.

Just like the machines in The Matrix - they engaged in brutality that rivaled anything that humans could have ever done to them.

If humanity reasserts itself and rises once again? How they then treat the apes might be quite telling. Would humanity be out for revenge? I can't say I'd disagree if they were. I am human, after all. ;)

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

Well the apes want to kill or enslave me. The humans don't. It's not a hard choice to make.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

Depends:

Original movie: humans, duh!

Original series to "Conquest of": Humans.

Marky-mark movie: Neither side seems too bright...

"Rise of" and "Dawn of:" Apes. The humans in these movies look like such a-holes.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

Taylor went through an unusual arc.
1) He started off being disillusioned with humanity. "There must be something out there better than man!"
2) He found someone who agreed with him-- the apes.
3) Now being hoist on his own loincloth, he inadvertently reversed himself by trying to defend humanity's cause. Hypocrisy, or just a reality check?
In any event, he took the position that man was still equal or superior to the apes.
4) He discovered he was wrong. He ended the first movie disillusioned with humanity again.
5) The second movie... well, the ending tells us that he was equally disillusioned with everyone. If we didn't know that already.

(Which is kind of amusing considering the number of illusions in the movie. )

Humans are apes. That's the beauty of it.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

Horses seem to be neutral and happy in all the various versions of the Planet of the Apes, so I will take the side of the equines.

Re: In Planet of the Apes, who would you support more, humans or the ap

I'm going to say the Apes, all Apes remember Humans are part of the Ape family.
