in my attempt of a defense

I'm not sure if my contribution about lasers and gravity was transferred to a different forum or if it was just closed. But, I read a couple versions of this article, and I interpreted them as saying that scientists had produced a laser that created enough gravity to crush a diamond. Whether they actually did that--why would they?--or not does not seem to have been spelled out. The main purpose was the theory.

True, it is pressure that would crush a diamond, but I think gravity produces pressure, or that at least the two are related. I'm not a brilliant scientist, but to me, gravity and pressure can have the same effect.

I thought this article might advance some knowledge or technology. That is why I shared it.

Well it looks like the original thread is still on the first page in this forum, but was closed because the topic title wasn't what was being said in the article.

It probably should have been in Science and Technology, because the General TREK Discussion is for Trek not specific to a series or film, and not for any unrelated random idea you just want to toss out there.

And sorry, but this rebuttal thread (from my perspective) looks more like a bid for attention than anything else.

Please forgive me for disagreeing, but I do not deliberately make comments just to attract attention to myself. Initially, I had hoped this article was suggesting an interesting advance in our knowledge of several related areas. It reminded me of articles I had read earlier on diamond anvil cells (DACs), which can achieve great pressures. I thought I'd read that lasers might be used in some of those DACs, but my memory could be flawed.

Admittedly, I am not a scientist and only claim average intelligence. But, I try to contribute to the discussions here in ways other than just saying whether I like a certain episode or a certain color or style of uniforms.

I do not post just to produce a certain number of entries. Please forgive my ignorance of scientific matters, but I had hoped to spark some instructive replies and perhaps stimulate more intelligent members to discuss new ideas. After all, the scientific method says we learn by experimenting and we advance by trying to expand our horizons, don't we?

My attempts at conversation may be pitiful, but I am trying. Please forgive me.

Okay, so...

Your original thread wasn't closed because you misspoke about gravity/pressure (anyone could have done that), but because it has nothing to do with Star Trek. This particular forum, as was pointed out earlier, is for Trek-related discussions.

There is a Science and Technology Forum further down the page, which would be the right place for this discussion. So I'm closing this, and feel free to re-start it there.

Thanks.
