In honour of parents.

Forgive the rather random nature of this thread, but I was anxious to express this, and what is the BBS for if not public presentation of odd personal details? Having just finished this year's university examinations, I had a lengthy and highly sentimental phone conversation with my mother. In this conversation, I'm pleased to say I expressed my full thanks and acknowledgement for her tireless devotion to her children in highly trying circumstances. She has not had an easy life, and indeed raised both myself and my sister alone from a young age, in what is reasonable poverty by British standards. We've had our differences, but I owe her so much and she has done a fine job in the unenviable role of single parent. I owe so much of my present success to her encouragement and love, and I feel it's only right to honour her here. This may seem a completely random post, but in celebrating my exams coming to an end it feels only right that I should express my gratitude for this wonderful woman who I am proud to call mother. If anyone else has similiar sentiments to share- particularly if raised by a single parent as I was- I would like to hear of it. So, let's here it for Deranged Nasat's mother!

My parents did a good job raising me, I just wish they'd realize they're done.

My parents,,,

My parents, in Scotland in the late 1950s, could see it wasn't the place they wanted to raise their children (there werre a couple of family issues too). So they packed up and moved halfway round the world. We have a bunch of 8mm films Dad took of us growing up. You see a bunch of healthy, happy kids living a really cool life. It wasn't flashy or fancy, and there were tough times, but all in all, they did good. Not perfect - we were latchkey kids part of the timne - but, looking round at what some kids had... damn, I was lucky. And somehow my brother & sisters & I managed to pass something on, so that our kids are turning out pretty good too - not angels, but again, looking round...

My Mum passed away in 2008, and I spent her last two weeks with her and Dad. I got to express how grateful I was for all that they had done, and that made her happy.

They did good. Dad has a soccer ground named after him iin our old hometown, and that wouldn't have happened without Mum supporting him in whatever he did.

One day I'll write their story. It's a good one. Migrant family makes way in new world. That is how I will honour them.

Yeah, it wasn't perfect, but... they did good.

Any fuckups since then have been purely my own fault.
