Impact of Discovery on post ST4 new Trek movies

The only time they converge in in a Fringe-esque war of the universes with Prime coming out on top
It would be interesting to have a larger budget episode of Discovery, where we find ourselves in the Kelvin version of the USS Discovery, with a Kelvin Timeline crew...

Everyone saying they will never converge... Clicky ;) Never say never.
Totally different case. In fact, I remember the powers that were being quoted during the run of TNG that Picard and Kirk would likely meet during a TNG movie. I don't have a link to that. But, it was fairly expected in advance and was not a surprise when it happened.

The question of familiar faces appearing is much different than whether the timelines will intermingle. Even if you had Greenwood appear as Pike, it would probably be the Pike of the Prime universe rather than the Kelvin universe. Ditto for any other actors from the movies that could appear in DIS. I do think we'll see familiar faces, but that's a different question than acknowledging the other timeline.

But, I never ruled out the possibility completely. I just said the probability was low that the two universes would converge.

I'm very skeptical about ever again seeing a non-Kirk/Spock Trek adventure on the big screen.

They shouldn't converge, really -- but if they do, it'll almost assuredly be on the small screen.

Amen. Heck, we've currently got at least two unconnected GODZILLA movie series going on now, one in Japan and the new American version.

Hah. Just found out that we're going to be getting a GODZILLA animated movie as well . ...

I doubt they are going to affect the other that much - maybe if the show has some amazing idea the movies will copy it.

The more DSC contradicts the JJ-Verse the better, hopefully the new show will reject that universe and the other show claiming to be in the prime universe.

My advice to the show-runners is to keep it canon; keep it Trek; don't contaminate the new show with revisionism.

We could have our heroine marry a young Kirk, have a kid who then gets killed by a Klingon that looks suspiciously like an ex-comedian.

They've already said they *will* be changing everything that they want to with the new series. Looks, facts, anything that gets in the way. So don't expect canon to matter in Discovery, which is about the only thing I've heard of it so far that sounds like it won't totally suck but still.

Well, the new series will fully embrace Star Trek: Enterprise as part of its back story and history. :)

Fuller has explicitly said that they intend to revise the continuity that has come before.

There’s so much about the history that once we get through this first season and establish our own Star Trek universe with a crew that is going to be reimagining a lot of Star Trek elements, we’ll be looking in the second season to open it up to more familiar characters and how they could feed into the weave, but first and foremost, I think we really want to convince you and establish the greatness of the characters that are going to be introduced."

On why the show is set before the original Star Trek instead of post-Voyager, and on establishing a "Star Trek universe of our own:"

I think for me, since we are doing this series in 2016 and all of the other series have been produced in a timeline that isn’t as sophisticated as we are now with what we can do production-wise, we’re going to be re-establishing an entire look for the series. Not only for the series, but also for what we want to accomplish with Star Trek beyond the series. So we have to start early on with a touch point where people can understand and have access into it, show them how we’re re-imagining Star Trek and then hold their hand as we pull them into hopefully a lot of different iterations of different timelines beyond what we have seen.

enterprise ended star trek as we know of it. What we have now is simply a re imagining of it. and thus has no real impact on ourselves. Thus do as was intended. sit back and visit the new adventures of the new enterprise.

remember when spock was last seen in nu trek, he said he had a way to converged the nu trek timeline and everything in it, BACK into the proper timeline as we know it.

No, he didn't.

The last thing he impled about that was that this new universe should be allowed to evolve in it's own, telling his Kelvin counterpart that he deliberately won't tell them anything that will "alter their destinies".

Prime Spock was all for this new reality having it's own identity.

Jesus. Even if he did, that'd be a pretty dick move on Nimoy Spock's part,

Spock Prime: Sorry nu-McGivers,I know you were quiet enjoying a Ceti-Eel-to-the-Brain free life.

And sorry Scotty, your nephew really does seem like he had a nice future in this universe.

And
I must apologise to you, my younger counterpart, who wasn't going to die painfully from Khan-induced warp core meltdown.

But y'all gotta understand... I prefer my Kirks to have hazel eyes. *Promptly Plays God with the Timey-Wimey Ball*
