I'm watching the series from the beginning again...

Lucy of Nine

Commander
Red Shirt
LOL... I havent seen some of these early episodes for YEARS!

Things that are making me giggle...

Janeways terrible hair colour in the Caretaker episodes (ginger??)...

Janeways terrible hairstyle and makeup early on! (Whats with that eyeshadow???)

Kes's bad wigs... :)

A much skinnier (and annoying) Neelix...

:)

I've recently done the same thing and wish you better luck getting through the last half of season seven then I had! ;)

Everyone hair looks no so good. I don't like Janeway with hair in bun, Kes short wig not as pretty as long wig. Only Neelix look the same

Lol those early Kes wigs can be quite awful. Janeway's hair scares and fascinates me. Combing Tom's hair back was a poor choice for a young guy with receding hairline (I thought he was at least 40 when I first watched it!) And you can almost pinpoint the episode Chakotay starts using Just For Men ;)

I've been watching it on Virgin1, yesterday's episode was Rise. There are a few more episodes of questionable quality in the last half of season 3 than I remember... I was never really aware before how good an actor Tim Russ is, easily my favourite character on the show now! And it's good to see Chakotay actually getting lines early on. Though the amount of shuttles he totals without him losing his pilot's privilege still confuses me :p

I know what kimc means about season 7 - this was the first time I acknowledged that there was something wrong with Trek, I wasn't sold on any of the two parters and there seemed to be an awful lot of filler (Natural Law, Renaissance Man, Drive spring instantly to mind).

Still, the first few seasons are still pretty good. It's a shame they never tried to do multi-episode stories again like the Kazon/Jonas/Seska arc, or tried to capitalise on the Vidiians a bit more. Still a good show :)

Haha true, her hair is both scary and fascinating. It just gets bigger and bigger... Lol.

Tom's receding hairline... :) Hahah, you make me laugh Jongredic, my thoughts exactly!

Now dont get me wrong, I'm a big big Janeway fan, but I'm nearly through season 1, and her over acting, over concerned face and ridiculous nodding/contemplative looks, and striking her hands angrily on her hips every time she speaks to another race, are making me laugh and laugh... she really settles into the role after season 1. LOL... Thank goodness she settled in! :) On the other hand, Kes is boring me to tears.... give me Seven any day! Lol...

Its interesting though, after 7 years, Tim Russ and Garrett Wang didnt really age did they? Botox? Lol...

It was the fist season, she not know what she's doing yet. It take some time to adjust to her character. After that she becomes good actress. Everyone becomes better as the show progressed

First-season episodes of all the series have some howlers in them, as the characters are settling down. None moreso than Spock, IMO.

Also, the network suits were so nervous about having a woman captain that they didn't give her much leeway on the details. They even overfussed about her hair. Mulgrew mentioned in an interview that at one point she wished she could be bald like Picard because she was so tired of having her hair messed with. She also said they really didn't let her start doing her own thing with Janeway until around the episode "Death Wish".

You take that Neelix comment back. He is my favorite character in the entire ST universe. Talaxians are also one of my favorite races, probably only behind Ferengi.

For real though, his back story in Pathways was amazing. So was Kes's.

Dont get me wrong, I love me some Neelix... I just forgot how clingy he was to Kes back early on.. and how skinny he was... LOL.

I just started Season2 yesterday. Wow, Janeways hair in the first ep is MASSIVE. I thought perhaps the Caretaker Array had hidden itself in her hair and was waiting to be found.... :)

Neelix used to be daring and a badass. He hung out in the woods in a cabin when he was young, seen a tortured guy who was mutilated, took quite a bit of drugs, tried to kill his Talaxian Business partner while he was high, traded with the Kazon, and tricked Janeway into helping him in his cause. So, Neelix was great -- then Voyager picked him up, and he became quite a bit less 'daring'.

Yeah....on Voyager, Neelix seriously bothers me. He's probably the most annoying character on Voyager...

Yah but Neelix in his early years was actually quite the rebel. I mean think about it; he did drugs, partook in shady business deals, stole from scrap yards, and tricked Janeway into helping him with his own cause. If you ask me, it was the writers who ruined Neelix. His story in Pathways was one of the best I have read. Both him and Kes had EXCELLENT back stories.

It's a great example of how opinions vary from person to person. Neelix was hands down my favorite and felt he was underused. Mortal Coil is one of the best Voyager episodes (Top 10).

Just rewatched Mortal Coil actually! His acting was brilliant in that episode. Was a great story line... loved it.

Ethan is a pro; he has a lot of range. Compare his hilarious scene taking a bath in all that luxurious water at the beginning and Mortal Coil.

Neelix is a genuinely nice character and Tuvvie is fascinating as is Tom! my fave character in Tom as we see him evolve )in more ways than one!)

It was a great Episode... not your typical Voyager Episode. Ethan is a great actor, and gee that young Naomi Wildman wasa cutie, I had forgotten about that actor.
