I'm watching Buffy for the first time right now,

Well, "The Witch" is still one of my favorite episodes of the series with its great statements on peer pressure, parental obsession, and twilight zone ending. And "The puppet Show" is still, IMHO, the most brilliantly twisted take on a horror genre trope evah. Even relatively bad eps like "The Pack" and "Teacher's Pet" each had something to enjoy somewhere in there.

Actually, you're right. Many season one episodes have that kind of Rod Serling flavour. The show evolved into a different animal altogether in later seasons, but season one has that kind of 'Twilight Zone meets the X Files' sort of vibe.

Personally, Season 1 is my 2nd favorite season of the series (after Season 2). The characters just have such a likable freshness to them that kinda got ground down in later seasons, even if the stories weren't as complex. I certainly have to concur about "The Witch" & "Out of Mind, Out of Sight."

One of my favorite, most relatable moments is in "Prophecy Girl" when Xander asks Buffy to the prom. It always breaks my heart a little. No matter how many times I watch it, I still hope that, next time, the ending will be different. :(

And while story wasn't always the strong point for Season 1, at least it didn't produce any purely unwatchable episodes. As much as people love Season 2, you gotta admit that it's the season that gave us "Bad Eggs" & "Go Fish.":ack:

I could not take The Master seriously.

Mark Metcalf was probably more intimidating when he played the Maestro.;)

Ye Gods! I can't believe nobody's mentioned Season 3!
Helloooooo... Mayor Wilkins? Mr. Trick? Buffy's special moment at the Prom? What's going on here?

Also, it's impressive how many actors on the show I've seen on other shows/movies since their time on Buffy, the casting must have been extremely good.

If that impresses you watch Freaks and Geeks, EVERYONE on the show became very famous. Shia LaBeouf showed up i nthe last episode I saw.
